We were heard! Thank you so much to our President and Vice Presidents for their unstinting support. Most of all, thanks to the members who shared their very moving stories with dignity.
War widows attack MoD over 'ridiculous' loophole that would make them £8,000 a year better off if they divorced | Evening Standard https://t.co/j28ohtt8o6
@raqualharpertit Raqual this is my MP who I have been badgering over last few years, sent him email earlier thus week so great to see he's listening to me!!
@raqualharpertit Well done Raqual for standing up for us, let us hope he was suitability embarrassed and will therefore follow this through to bring about justice
It was sobering, too, that while thousands had crowded the cenotaph less than an hour before the war widows’ service, few remained to pay their respects to those left behind. Sometimes, it’s easier to remember the dead than it is to face those who are a living reminder of them.
@AWMurrison@PoppyLegion@HouseofCommons Absolutely devastated by the news of the Recognition Payment that it is not going to be paid to War Widows, for which the campaign was all about. The fact you decided to impart this information just days before Remembrance Day parades it beyond contempt, you should be ashamed!!
@raqualharpertit@AWMurrison@PoppyLegion@HouseofCommons Raqual thinking of you and all the others that were left behind after the ultimate sacrifice was paid, unbelievable that a government that espouses family values can treat war widows this way. Broken promises to the men and women who served.
@AWMurrison@PoppyLegion@HouseofCommons Absolutely disgusted with your response today regarding the ex-gratia payment. I wish I had known when I thanked you, in person, and told you my story- you didn’t even mention I didn’t meet the criteria-criteria that was not agreed! Was always about the WWP!
#betrayed#deceived
Please don’t forget about the often ‘forgotten group’ Bereaved Families. Not your remit, but in today’s Government, some Widows are STILL having to fight for their WWP- or at least the agreed ex-gratia payment! @WarWidowsAssoc@RAFWidows@rnrmwidows@AWMurrison@RishiSunak
@JohnnyMercerUK@WarWidowsAssoc@Cobseo And for those of us who live in Scotland we will be subject to higher rate of tax than our widow counterparts in England, Wales and NI. Yet again discrimination applied!
@WarWidowsAssoc Does Baroness Fookes realise this payment is to be taxed? Because of the amount it will be subject to higher rate tax, and for those living in Scotland will be paying more in taxation! Yet again more discrimination.
