If you believe free speech is for you but not your political opponents, you're illiberal.
If no contrary evidence could change your beliefs, you're a fundamentalist.
If you believe the state should punish those with contrary views, you're a totalitarian.
If you believe political opponents should be punished with violence or death, you're a terrorist.
Fifteen wounded sailors were drifting toward a Japanese-held shore. The water beneath them was full of sharks.
Then one of the U.S. Navy’s most overlooked heroes went over the side.
Guadalcanal, September 5, 1942. Japanese warships had just sunk USS Gregory, an old destroyer converted into a high-speed transport.
Among the survivors was Charles Jackson French, a 22-year-old Black mess attendant.
French helped crowd 15 wounded shipmates onto a life raft. As the current carried them toward enemy-held territory, he tied a rope around his waist, entered the water, and began to swim.
For more than six hours, French towed the raft through the darkness!
When an officer warned him about sharks, French reportedly replied that he was more afraid of the Japanese. His only request: "Just keep telling me if I’m going the right way."
At dawn, an American aircraft spotted the raft. A landing craft rescued all 15 men.
The press called French the "Human Tugboat".
Although he was recommended for the Navy Cross, the segregated Navy awarded him only a letter of commendation.
French died in 1956, aged just 37. In 2022, the Navy posthumously awarded him the Navy and Marine Corps Medal.
Two years later, it announced that a future destroyer would carry his name: USS Charles J. French.
Enter Sandman is a 25 year old Virginia Tech tradition and the reason Metallica added the school to their last tour.
Virginia Tech’s Geosciences department measured the equivalent of a magnitude 1 to 2 earthquake when the band played the song at that concert.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen
Christ Is King!
