Does the old Modernist Religious Left still exist? The New York Times found one of its last recognizable vestiges in the Reverend Jim Rigby whose congregation includes Texas U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico. @theird https://t.co/GW5Bavd1g4
“There was a vacuum here being filled by other voices and other perspectives that are critical of — if not hostile to — the free-market perspective.”
Great new initiative from @TheIRD. https://t.co/Tp98hskOWZ
“Tooley, who is Methodist, said IRD is ‘not tied to any particular Christian tradition’ and includes both Protestants and Catholics, noting ‘Catholics were among our founders.’ He said IRD has been ecumenical from the start, with a focus on Christianity in the U.S., democracy, and human rights.”
I just finished a touching visit at HumanKind Ministries. We learned about how they have helped to address housing insecurity in the Wichita area for 135 years. It’s organizations like this that remind us what it truly means to serve our communities and to treat our neighbors as we would want to be treated. That’s the sort of Kansas Values we need from our Senators in Washington.
🥫 Volunteers from Tomahawk, Spirit, and Rhinelander UMCs, along with Grace Lutheran Church, packed 600 Midwest Mission Blessing Bags—enough to feed 3,600 people. A great example of churches partnering to serve those in need.
New article in Good News! Stephen Rankin looks beyond Wesley's "strangely warmed heart" to discover the often-overlooked story of his "strangely warmed mind."

Here's how religious attendance shifts from childhood to adulthood.
Notice that the general trend is downward.
Among people who grew up going weekly, 43% attend less than once a year now.
Among people who attend weekly or more now, 6% grew up never attending.
1991 Persian Gulf War under Bush, Cheney, Scowcroft, Powell, Baker, Schwarzkopf exemplified wise statecraft & military prudence, winning public opinion, Congress, wide global alliance, w/achievable goals, moral & strategic arguments, sobriety & gravitas. They led the nation & Free World. We took it for granted then.
We kicked off our day at Gravel City Roasters, where we had Emporia’s best coffee and pastries. I was blessed to sit down with fellow United Methodist Church pastors and pray for our amazing state. I heard from Kansans who told me how they’re being squeezed by the cost of everything: groceries, gas, and the healthcare they need for their families. They told me how decisions out of Washington are only making life harder, and the leaders we have just aren’t listening to their concerns. Kansans know we deserve better than we’re getting now.

As Jesus called Matthew, he was calling a man most respectable Jews would have considered a traitor. https://t.co/5ivkmCQJi9
The GMC debate on the articles is not relevant to me since I am in the UMC, but boy does inerrancy language give this ex-fundamentalist the heebie-jeebies.

Solid work from Joel Green, presenting an authentically Wesleyan approach to Scripture; one focused on holiness, what the Scripture, inspired and illuminated by the Spirit, makes possible by means of encounter. https://t.co/Ug89JZdLSD
