As a Kindergarten team we took photos in our rooms of an area we love and an area we dislike. My teaching partner chose this bird centre as her favourite. She loves that the children can experience the life cycle of birds and show empathy for them through these materials.
@Shy_Sahariv I really liked the Sheffield gratitude wall, and the fact that darker aspects of gratitude are talked about like how ingratitude can be developed through negative experience (trauma, abuse), and how the importance of mental health accessibility is mentioned at the end.
Babysitting a pre-school child having trouble understanding relational math - what’s bigger and smaller out of certain objects. Parents asked me for advice. I thought about it and tested visual, varied, concrete representation of the concepts, inspired by @eriksonmath. #acuedu_p
From Kurzgesagt, a great YT channel. They talk about how "surroundings that are aesthetically pleasing to us can improve our wellbeing, our behaviour, cognitive function, and mood". Applied to a school context, a classroom's looks matter.

My room leader at my ELC has been away the past weeks so I've done documentation. Been using @StoryparkApp to make parents weekly updates. I love looking at my children's play, thinking about their learning and how they're developing, and writing about it for parents. #ACUedu_p
if your day didn’t go well. that’s perfectly fine. because now you get to dream. and who knows what could happen. i hope i dream i’m a penguin. so i can zoom on my belly
This is something I’ve thought about a lot while working as an early childhood educator. There are different kinds of fatigue: physical and mental types are often thought of. However I’ve definitely seen coworkers experience, and myself felt, empathy fatigue too. #ACUedu_p
"Empathy fatigue" is real, research shows—and those in certain professions are more likely to deplete their supply of compassion https://t.co/uRQSjaFq09
Sending out a retweet of another great post by @eriksonmath on subitizing. They are probably my favourite twitter follow because they're a gold mine for practical ideas on helping young children learn math - a topic i have wondered about for a long time. #acuedu_p
SUBITIZING: We all do it every day. And it is something that children develop early. Are there things teachers and parents can do to hone that skill? Here are ideas about subitizing: https://t.co/LsAX4lKLqM
Here's a great blog post on the importance of play in early childhood settings, something which I'm passionate about.

The article we looked at in COMM140 tonight prompted us to think about what the consequences can be of sharing information online. Specifically, when does the ethical good of revealing illegal information outweigh the responsibility of keeping it private?

@Shy_ACU The behaviourist way of changing behaviour through punishment (detention) doesn't address why a student is acting out. This mediation alternative I'm happy to see as it addresses thoughts, feelings and behaviours, all of which are tightly linked and important for self-regulation.
DAP RECAP: Check this out! A simple activity with tubes and balls helps toddlers learn an early math concept of comparison, and an early science concept of simple machinery! Plus, it's pretty... https://t.co/eomVQarFnC
