🚨GEORGIA FREEDOM CAUCUS RESPONDS TO GOVERNOR KEMP’S PRIMARY THREAT:

Governor Brian Kemp has now threatened to primary any Republican who votes against his bill, SB 68.

In 2021, Governor Kemp pushed through legislation to create a “Leadership Committee” for incumbent Governors, Lt. Governors, and party leadership in the House and Senate. These are PACs with no contribution limits that the individual runs themselves and the PAC can fully coordinate with their campaign and the campaign of anyone they’re supporting.

Brian Kemp has used this law to create a massive war chest, built by corruption, to take over the role of the Georgia Republican Party so he can control our state government as a self-appointed monarch who can’t dare be questioned.

Now, Governor Kemp has said anyone who votes against or attempts to improve his bill, SB 68, will receive a primary challenge funded by his corrupt slush fund.

Regardless of the quality of the legislation, this is a wrongful subversion of the legislative process by a man clearly drunk on power. This is a clear attempt to use his war chest as a means to govern our state as an all-powerful monarch rather than as 1/3rd of a representative government.

Representative governance is a key principle in our country. Furthermore, the founders deemed it necessary that our system have checks and balances spread across 3 branches of government. As legislators, our constitutional duty is to serve as a check on the executive branch. We represent our districts, not the Governor. We swear fealty to the Constitution, not to Brian Kemp.

The Georgia Senate Republican Caucus has a duty to protect its members and should have condemned the Governor for threatening to end the political careers of Caucus members. Alas, however, they do not have the courage to speak truth to power in defense of their mandate to protect their membership.

This is not a statement on the legislation itself, but a condemnation of the tactics employed by Governor Kemp to get it passed by any means necessary. His threats are wrong and stand opposed to the principles of representative government.

We condemn Governor Kemp’s attempt to threaten members and scare them into submission. We will continue to support and oppose legislation on the merits thereof and never kowtow to the threats of the Establishment. God bless America! 🇺🇸
