⏰ TIMING: What Do These Two Elite Hitters Have in Common?
Take a look at both swings at the exact moment of pitch release.
Notice something? Both hitters have their front foot in the air.
This surprises a lot of people because they’ve been taught that the foot has to be down at release. Or “get your foot down early”. But that’s not what many elite hitters actually do.
The best hitters get their foot down - on time. And to get down on time - you have to start on time.
The important part is when the timing move started.
Both hitters:
✅ Started their move early.
✅ Front foot is hovering, not just beginning to lift.
✅ Are balanced over the back side.
✅ Have a controlled, slow-moving stride.
Too many young hitters wait until they see the ball before beginning their move. By then, they’re forced to rush everything. Poor rhythm and tempo, rushed sequence.
Be on time with your gather so you can land under control - kaaaaaaaaaaaBOOM

I asked #Sooners great Baker Mayfield about the trajectory of the program under Brent Venables:
"I think BV has them going."
Mayfield gave a similar answer at last year's camp. But after OU's CFP appearance in 2025, he's even more confident now.
