As communications policymakers, @FCC should be a leading example of how we can stay healthy and perform effectively with telework. That’s why starting tomorrow, my team and I will be working remotely. We will reassess the situation as facts develop. #Covid_19
Media diversity came up at yesterday’s hearing. @RepYvetteClarke asked why @FCC has fallen down on its statutory duty to collect EEO workforce data for years. I said @FCC can’t hide by claiming there are constitutional issues with asking constitutional questions.
Julie is an FCC hero & has been a role model for me & countless others. He’s the gold standard for civil servants, providing multiple administrations with the benefit of his tremendous intellect, knowledge & experience. We wish him & his family the best. https://t.co/eBtE4Wcv3c
.@RepCummings was a cherished and celebrated leader in Congress and a pillar of his beloved Baltimore community. He spoke truth to power, most notably while wielding a significant amount of his own. Mr. Chairman, you will be missed. Rest in power.
ICYMI: In supporting the TRUE Fees Act, I said surprise bills & confusing fees had become the new normal. @CRAdvocacy confirms this, finding the average customer pays $450/year in fees—and growing. It’s up to the FCC to make sure telecom services are affordable. We must do more.
I’m excited to join @FTCPhillips and @manoushz at the inaugural #publicinteresttech convening at @Georgetown. It is hard to find tech experts who also understand law and policy. In government, we desperately need more of these folks. I’m happy to support this fantastic program.
Here we are again. For the 4th time, a federal court told the FCC that we can't relax our limits on media consolidation without analyzing the impact on diversity. The FCC's approach needs a dramatic overhaul that puts diversity front and center - and it is time to start now.
It’s a packed house for @RepDavidTrone’s Rural Broadband Roundtable in Hagerstown, MD with @GeoffreyStarks@SenatorCardin@ChrisVanHollen and other federal, state, and local leaders! Broadband access and cybersecurity are on the agenda.
Kudos to @NCAGO, @AGCurtisHill, & @NH_DOJ for leading 51 State AGs in establishing anti-robocall best practices w/ phone companies, including free call blocking.
In June, I made sure @FCC would track deployment of these tools. Looking forward to the 1st report in a few months.
I applaud @GKButterfield for focusing on media diversity. The Expanding Broadcast Opportunities Act could, finally, help us move the needle on broadcast ownership diversity. Broadcasting must better reflect the diversity of communities across this country. https://t.co/NFVv3JVNjX
I’m excited to announce that @AlisaValentin joined #TeamStarks today as Special Advisor. Alisa has a strong policy background on #DigitalDivide issues and I’m looking forward to working with her to address the growing problem of #InternetInequality. Welcome Alisa!
.@FCC Commissioner @GeoffreyStarks says that govt. has a responsibility to demand more transparency of service providers for the consumer: "There is a mismatch between what people think they are signing up for and what is getting delivered back to those companies" #PostLive
Packed house at @postlive as Commissioner @GeoffreyStarks and @TonyRomm chat about the 5G future. Commissioner Starks is outlining benefits but also challenges such as protecting national security and solving #InternetInequality.
Watch as FCC Commissioner Geoffrey Starks and industry leaders discuss advancements that are poised to have profound effects on American cities and the people who live in them. https://t.co/COPtGe4FI3
Last month, I sent letters to all major carriers asking about plans to offer consumers default robocall blocking free of charge. Responses are due tomorrow. It looks like AT&T delivered the right answer a day early. My expectations are clear. Other carriers should follow suit.
I enjoyed my conversation with @AliVelshi on @MSNBC yesterday. We discussed my #FindItFixItFundIt Workshop at the FCC and the dangers of insecure network equipment. Network security is national security. We need to get this right.
FCC broadband data is used to direct billions of dollars of government funding to address #InternetInequality. The problem? Our maps are wrong. We should consider using modern tools like AI and machine learning to fix this. My latest on @Nextgov: https://t.co/XlUFPRWVcQ
