@hubermanrules He’s probably not wrong, but it’s interesting that he is usually so precise with references to published literature and here he’s just…. “It’s disgusting”
@RomeoStevens76 I’m pretty sure there’s a ~U-shaped relationship as well between sun exposure and melanoma, which accounts for the majority of deaths from skin cancers. Both too little and too much sun increases the risk!
@david_perell@SP1NS1R@BrentBeshore This model is how I think of the hierarchy -
not that the base layers are required for development of the higher ones, but that there will always be a desire for self-actualisation even once the lower layers are complete
Heard joke once: man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him."
@michael_nielsen@SarahTheHaider@gwern Having read his autobiography, the OP could not describe a more different parenting style. 10 flash cards vs 1000 forehands/backhands a day; stopping when disengaged vs forcing more, more, more
@nickcammarata I think anandamide is central here. It’s the neurotransmitter implicated in the pleasant, relaxed feeling of being high. The difference is in the flow state this is experienced in a state of high concentration.
@jacksonfyfe So increasing protein intake leads to a 50% relative increase in muscle mass gain over 12 weeks? 1.3-1.4kgs for training alone; 1.8-2.1kgs for training plus protein? Personally my takeaway is protein intake is *more* important than I previously would have thought.
@lillybilly299@simulatedsnow Also progesterone relaxes smooth muscle everywhere in the body, including the sphincter that stops acid going from stomach -> oesophagus = acid reflux
