With this transformative support from @yyc_health we can help patients recover faster after spine surgery and be able to offer ultra-minimally invasive spine surgery options to patients.
This investment will lead to better patient care and research in spine surgery!
Congratulations to Dr. Michael Yang @MichaelYangMD and Dr. Ken Tomas who will be receiving 8.2 million dollars from the Calgary Health Foundation @yyc_health to build a Calgary Endoscopic Spine Surgery Program and an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Program for Spine Surgery! ๐
EXCITED TO SHARE! We show that our synthetic imaging data supports transfer learning for centres without enough local data to build ML models independently

Excited to teach at the 2026 Spine Summit in Special Course 4: Endoscopic Spine Cadaver Lab
Demonstrating an L5/S1 interlaminar discectomy โ transforaminal approach โ extraforaminal TLIF, showcasing a stepwise endoscopic pathway from decompression to fusion!

We recently hosted our 18th Annual Peripheral Nerve and Spine Surgery Cadaver Course. We had residents attend from ๐ฒ๐ฝ, Israel, and across ๐จ๐ฆ! Thank you to all the Faculty members, fellows, and @MichaelYangMD for directing this course.
Terry was one of the first patient to receive endoscopic spine surgery in Calgary. It is patients like him that drive us to push the boundaries of spine care.
Watch his story. Support @yyc_health! @CalgarySpine

Case: T11/T12 disc herniation causing severe spinal stenosis and thoracic myelopathy.
Procedure: R T11/T12 trans-SAP transforaminal endoscopic discectomy

As we near the end of 2025, I had the opportunity to reflect on key innovations in spine surgery in the Canadian context with @VuMedi .
Endoscopic techniques, ERAS pathways, and value-based care are reshaping how we deliver spine care across Canada.

We hosted the Calgary Spine Program Holiday Party this past weekend. It was a great opportunity to celebrate our successes this past year. We are so grateful to work with such amazing people.
Thank you @koconews and @KylieKOCO for highlighting the urgent need for ATV and UTV safety during National Injury Prevention Week. Oklahoma leads the nation in deaths among children under 16 on these vehicles. A DOT-approved helmet, proper protective gear, age-appropriate vehicles, and safety education can save lives and prevent life-changing injuries in Oklahoma.
