@YipStrickler@mikeadams_22@TheHannaRay ๐ฏ Just had our Member-Guest last weekend. I loath the 9-hole phony differential. The 5 phonies from a M-G are just bad on steroids - 25% of your GHIN record.
@mondonmondo@YipStrickler@TheHannaRay ๐ฏ We just had our M/G and that's how they posted the 5 matches. And you are playing front & back each day from the same tees. Only difference is you are playing against different competition. It becomes 25% of your card. Crazy.
@DominicJPino Wealth tax is insane. Last Friday I was worth (on paper) X.300K. By Tuesday I had lost 300K. By Thursday I had gained back 150K. By today I have gained back 225K. Please tell me how much I should pay in wealth taxes.
Friday, Tuesday, or today's value?
@opusx69@OutdroveUagain@YipStrickler Oh, I absolutely believe this guy is a dishonorable sandbagger (the 3 MM victories alone would be evidence even w/out the incredible 73-74). I'm just saying not all guests who do well in a MG are sandbaggers; courses aren't rated perfectly.
@opusx69@OutdroveUagain@YipStrickler See my comment above. MG are a tougher question because of the ratings of different courses. You definitely get ringers and baggers, but you can also get people with higher handicaps est at tougher tracks.
@OutdroveUagain@YipStrickler The 15 is at Congressional, probably the one of the toughest tracks in Maryland. Our course is over-rated (and we know it). If the brother played our course regularly he would be an 8 or 9. So he is "sandbagging" but due to the different courses.
@OutdroveUagain@YipStrickler Member-guests are a tougher question. We have two brothers who won our MG two years in a row and were in the shootout this year. The member is a legit 3 handicap. His brother is a 15. But ... 1/
@YipStrickler I would assume that a Calcutta is involved (most M/Ms have one). He likely walked away with a lot of cash for each of his 3 wins. I would think the other members whose pockets are being picked would have some interest in stopping the sandbagging.
@MathMagician0@mrmarmalade11@YipStrickler Unfortunately most clubs have some baggers, but this guy seems like an outlier. Three M/M victories in 5 years (we hold M/Ms per year - spring and fall - don't know what this club does), is quite a lot. Plus the two M/G wins in AZ.
@RTHztk7@tomontilt@YipStrickler Actually, it's the hardest to dial and the easiest to lose. It takes certain natural talent (speed, fitness) to hit a ball 270+ yards, but you either have that or you don't. You don't have a great short game playing only six times prior to June.
@DaveTheNewb@iowahawkblog I think they are ugly in person as well. Also, as someone who owns a 3/4 ton diesel pickup (for a reason) it is a lousy pickup truck. You can't tow a 10,000 gooseneck trailer with it 600 miles in a day if you wanted to.
@bjv511@YipStrickler@FirstTee As an 8.6 the offset is -4.6 (the differential for that round is a 4), so the USGA odds are about 1 in 150. Unlikely, but not insane. At a 15, the odds are 1 in 3150 which is insane.
@YipStrickler@FirstTee The differential on that course should be a 4. As a 15, that's a -11 offset, which the USGA says has an odds of 1 in 2200. Not likely.
@georgeregnery@mattyglesias The first is the most important to me. Our current political climate has killed what should have been a very special year. I fondly remember how big a production the bicentennial was in 1976.
@AustinWall97@YipStrickler Unless you live north of the arctic circle, it is impossible to "not play for 5-6 months" anymore. If you aren't that devoted, just don't keep a handicap.
@wvu185@YipStrickler You guys are lenient. We use 80% of 12 month lows for our member-guest. The difficulty is that we still allow members to bring guests from "e-clubs" where handicap verification is impossible.
@Bqmbulu Young men and women - same lesson. Our kids attended a fairly expensive private school for K-8. The entire curriculum of the 3rd grade boiled down to "life isn't fair." Best money we ever spent.
