😡Deputy laughed and joked after shooting and killing dog of family whose house just burned:

Recording:👮‍♂️“You know what really sucks? This man is going to come home and see his house burned down and his dogs are dead. (ha-ha-ha) He’s gonna be like f*cking sheriff’s office…” ha-ha-ha!

On Aug. 15, 2024, in Mossy Head, Walton County, FL, a fully involved house fire destroyed the Pylant family’s home.

Firefighters reported two dogs (Bella, ~6yo pit bull, and Athena) were aggressive and blocking access while it was unknown if anyone was inside.

Battalion Chief Mike Griggs directed WCSO Sgt. Kyle Hutto to shoot the dogs; Hutto shot and killed Bella (Athena survived).

Bodycam audio later captured Hutto and Deputy Connor Gunn laughing and joking about the owner returning to a burned house and dead dogs.

🔴The Sheriff’s Office ruled the shooting within policy.

The deputies were disciplined for the comments (not fired).

Sheriff Adkinson called the language unacceptable.

🔴In 2026 the family filed a 9-count civil suit against Adkinson, Hutto, and Griggs.

Lawsuit status as of late October 2026:

Filed: June 12, 2026, in Walton County (Florida) Circuit Court.

Plaintiffs:

🔹Rodney Pylant (the homeowners).

Defendants:
🔸Sheriff Michael A. Adkinson Jr.
