@AndyRoden1@OceaniaSceptic@AndyBTravels@tfwrail@Heidi_Labour@Eluned_Morgan@andyburnham The reality is that the average rail passenger has no interest in the politics but just wants their train to operate correctly.
The main issue here seems to be the inability to provide the 5 car trains on a consistent basis. They may be a TfW operation but are based at Crewe.
@dantomlinsonmp Gordon Brown did it far better as he held Cabinet meetings in each of the Regions so that no one felt alienated. And there meet the Cabinet sessions after the official business.
@ChimeWhistle My daughter used to have a house by Stourbridge Jct stn. Trains all the time and announcements - just background noise little noticed. Class 68 on tickover half a mile made a rumble and vibration though the house.
@salingergregor Most European countries can build wider and taller trains as they have bigger bridges and tunnels.
If I remember correctly, HS2 was going to have 400m double deck trains but that ability was lost once it was planned to run them on to conventional lines.
@Mason_Cash_@ednewtonrex It seems that she, and several other ministers, have had public speaking training from Ed Miliband who comes across as threatening. It’s made worse by her reading off a script probably written by someone else.
@hbaldwin@worcscc As a Worcestershire resident who goes to many parts of England and Wales, I think that overall we have the best roads although there are a few bad locations.
People complain rail fares in UK are complicated now. This was the 1983 guide to #railfares which was 20 pages long. And this is just the West Midlands edition.
@Captain_Deltic The official DfT release is terrible. It refers to a doubling of Gatwick to London trains, doubled to Victoria and doubled on GX. Which is it and I thought that there was no track capacity anyway?
@afneil And the seventies brought about Thatcherism just as the late 60s brought Heath into power. Any government seemed to be disliked - I remember striking workers marching through Liverpool circa 1968 shouting Wilson, out, out, out.
@anon_opin Not completely true as today it is a mixture of 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10 carriage trains.
There is more stock in store that could be used but DfT won’t authorise it.
In addition some stock out of service being refurbished.
