Today we farewelled RADM Guy Griffiths AO, DSO, DSC RAN (Rtd) at the Garden Is Chapel after he passed away at 101. He served in @Australian_Navy from 1937-1980, including WW2, Korea and Vietnam. One of a kind. RIP Sir.
Today marks the 60th anniversary of the sinking of HMAS Voyager and the loss of 82 members of @Australian_Navy. 10 years ago we took survivors, families and rescuers to sea to mark the 50 th anniversary. So many people’s lives changed by what happened #OTD#LestWeForget
The first units of the fleet, HMA Ships Yarra and Parramatta, reached Australian waters in 1910 and the following year, His Majesty King George V granted the title of ‘Royal Australian Navy’ to the Commonwealth Naval Forces.
On this day, 4 October 1913, the first Royal Australian Navy Fleet Unit arrived in Sydney Harbour, marking the establishment of Australia's independent naval power.
VADM Robert Andrew Kevin Walls, AO, RAN made significant contributions to the @Australian_Navy during his 42 year career, serving in command and staff positions which culminated in his appointment as VCDF from 1995-1997.
I extend my sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Littoral Combat Ship USS Canberra alongside at Garden Island in the beautiful Sydney Harbour before her commissioning ceremony on Saturday. The only ship in the US Navy to be named after a foreign capital. A very powerful symbol of the alliance between our countries.

Yesterday, Spain’s Chief of the Defence Force, Almirante General Teodoro López Calderón, was appointed an honorary Officer in the Order of Australia for his outstanding efforts in advancing the Australia-Spain bilateral relationship in his role as Chief of Navy.
