A few years ago, an LCMS church in a major metropolitan area closed down. Another LCMS congregation basically took over their remains. But, you know to be gracious team players and whatnot, they called up a nearby pastor friend of mine and said “hey, we’re going to take all the young families but would you like to take over their shut-ins?”

These are the same kind of people starting online seminaries, telling us which practices for ministry are best and lecturing us about “managed decline.”

So about a dozen of my evangelical non-denom friends have all gotten engaged in the last few months. Mix of girls & guys. Most met in college, fellowship groups or service organizations. Is it really easier for them or are we (Lutherans) overcomplicating it?
