@EricWFMJ Didn’t see the northern lights yet, but Jupiter and Venus are closing in on their conjunction on June 9th, sitting just below the “twins” of Gemini, Castor and Pollux. Mercury will be joining the group next week as well.
@EricWFMJ Interesting feature on the radar this evening with a broad spin. As it’s passing south of the area here, the wind has really kicked up and gusting decently.
@EricWFMJ Curious what you’re seeing for next week. I’ve seen some big temp swings in the modeling midweek compared to yesterday. I’m guessing a cold front is going to stall out and we’re likely gonna be on the wrong side of it now Wednesday-Friday. I’m moving, and it’s not looking ideal.
@EricWFMJ I was looking ahead to Easter for a preview and it appears we either get Winter with the GFS at 39 or Summer with the Euro and 80. The Ensembles probably tell a better picture although big disparity still even on those, with 50 on the GFS and 65 on the Euro.
@EricWFMJ I saw the CPC released their initial April outlooks today. I was just curious if this aligns to what you are seeing in the long range? At least there doesn’t appear to be a cold signal, though this isn’t a strong warm signal either.
@Parkeology Ok I had to cheat a little because my brain just couldn’t wrap around this. It is truly crazy how different it really looked before Cheshire cafe went in. It looked like an extension of the castle. I found the wall here. Now I’m gonna stare at it when we go next month. Lol
@EvanPatel11 Yep! On slower days we will literally ride the ferry taxi between Fort Wilderness and MK for an hour or so back and forth just to take in the views and have a nice boat ride on the lake. It’s even more stunning when it’s a crystal clear day like in your photos. Super relaxing.
@EricWFMJ Sheesh the operational Euro drops the hammer on the cold again mid month. The Ensemble run at least keeps us in the 30s but I guess this is the price we pay for the warmth coming. Starting to question if March will even shake out above avg as a whole now with this kind of cold.
@EricWFMJ I did notice that the deterministic models for both GFS and Euro suggest even a few days in the 70s centered around the 8-10th, and mid 70s even. Could be wishful thinking, but interesting both models are picking up on the high warmth
@EricWFMJ Are there any other teleconnections in play in this mid March time frame that would work in our favor, in the event the SSW does dislodge some cold into NA? Sometimes if that southeast ridge flexes its muscle it can deflect some of the cold away
Caught this view just this evening of Mercury at the top, the Moon, and Venus way down at the bottom. The Moon will actually pass over Mercury if you’re in far southern North America later this evening. @EricWFMJ@BetsyKling@JasonNweather@MarkJWeather@NWSCLE
@EricWFMJ Starting to see some glimmers of hope in the long range models that we could finally break out of this. Do you think there’s some truth in it?
@EricWFMJ I don’t have a weather station but I follow the one up the road from me in Rootstown. This one registered -19.1° this morning. What’s even more incredible is that it’s already warmed to +12°, which is over a 31° increase in roughly 4 hours.
@NWSCLE Thank you! Are the airport readings on here the official site readings? They’re listed as trained spotter so I wasn’t sure if that meant it’s someone near the airport or the actual airport’s reading.
@EricWFMJ Goodness. February looks like a total lost cause for anything near normal temp-wise. Are we looking to March now to finally break this pattern? This is brutal.
@EricWFMJ My hopes got up when you mentioned the cold eases after the first few days of February, but then I just saw the CPC’s freshly issued 3-4 week outlook. This winter really wants to just winter on and on 😕
