The cynic in me thinks it's comical to speculate that a player like Kyle Tucker is going to leave a 10-year offer on the table to sign with the #Mets, especially from a loaded team like #BlueJays who nearly won the World Series last year.

Is it possible that the reported offers we are hearing are inaccurate? Perhaps. I haven't heard anything substantial that would make me think otherwise.

I expect Tucker to sign with the Jays as early as today.

Disappointing? Sure. But one player, even one as talented as Tucker, isn't going to be the difference for a #Mets team that two seasons ago was two wins away from a pennant.

The Mets need another starting pitcher, maybe two. The rotation was not nearly good enough last season. That still has to be addressed. Maybe the young arms like McLean, Sproat, and eventually Tong are the fix.

The Mets need another BP arm, maybe two. That could come from within, but the "tomato can shuffle" from a season ago is not a strategy I have a lot of faith in. Building a bullpen needs to be tactical, not an endless loop exercise of half measures.

The Mets need another impact bat, maybe two.

Maybe the Mets are already poised to make an offer to Bellinger or trade for another OFer to address the lineup. We won't know until it happens. That's usually how it happens.

One thing I do know is that this team needs Francisco Alvarez, Mark Vientos, and Brett Baty to be consistent, reliable offensive players. I think that's a viable plan.

Maybe we'll see some young offensive players like Carson Benge or Jett Williams get a chance to contribute? That would be fun.

The message I am trying to convey is that losing Tucker isn't the end of the world.
