On this #InternationalDayOfPeace, and as world leaders gather tomorrow for the #UNGA81 General Debate, we are reminded of the United Nations’ primary mandate: to build and sustain peace.
True peace is never merely the absence of war; it is the presence of human dignity, justice, and institutional mechanisms that prevent conflict before it erupts.
This year’s theme, Invest in Peace, is a call to action. Prevention cannot remain a slogan, it must become our daily operating discipline. Peace is not automatic; it has to be chosen, every day, through a multilateral system grounded in our shared humanity. 🕊️🌐
Four years left to deliver on the promise of the 2030 Agenda. Four years to get more children into school, more food on tables and more medicines into hospitals.
At the SDG Moment, I called for one thing: delivery. Scale what works, invest where the need is greatest, and ensure that progress reaches those left furthest behind. The time for delivery is now. #FitforFuture

Congratulations to Togo 🇹🇬 on successful adoption of the UNGA Resolution to “Correct the Map”, to better reflect the relative size of the continental landmasses.
🇮🇪 welcomes this initiative to promote a more equitable and accurate cartographic representation of the world’s regions, particularly Africa, for educational, awareness-raising and geographical literacy purposes. (1/2)
Children should never bear the consequences of decisions made by those who wage war.
This cannot be normalized.
Every grave violation committed against a child is a failure to ensure their safety, well-being, and future cannot be negotiated.

Congratulations to the delegation of #Togo 🇹🇬 and the Africa Group on the adoption this morning by the #UNGA of resolution A/80/L.104, “Correct the Map.”
First endorsed by the African Union Assembly in February and officially passed at the United Nations today, this @_AfricanUnion initiative marks a historic step toward accurate and equitable global cartographic representation.
For centuries, the Mercator projection distorted global geography, shrinking Africa to the size of Greenland when our continent is actually 14 times larger. Today’s resolution promotes equal-area maps like Equal Earth across classrooms, media, and international institutions ensuring the world map finally reflects Africa’s true scale, weight, and place in the world.
I wish to take this opportunity to warmly congratulate H.E. Ahunna Eziakonwa,( @ahunnaeziakonwa) on her swearing in as the United Nations (@UN) Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser on Africa.
This is a significant milestone and a powerful moment for Africa’s voice and representation within the global multilateral system. I commend your leadership, experience and commitment to advancing peace, sustainable development and opportunity across our continent.
I particularly welcome your commitment to deepening collaboration between the United Nations and the African Union and advancing Africa’s development agenda at the global level.
May your tenure be impactful, transformative and firmly anchored in advancing the interests and aspirations of Africa and its people.
