In the 1930s, the term "cat lady" referred to older women who lived alone and kept multiple cats as companions. Though the stereotype of the "cat lady" became more pronounced in later decades, in the 1930s, these women were simply navigating life in a society that often didn’t know where to place them. For many, their cats were much more than pets; they were trusted companions who offered love and affection in a world that could feel lonely or isolating. In the photos, I test 2 birds with 1 chip. Consciously, I "shadowed" 1, using subtle manipulation, I dictated how he could "move"...he never ate. The other was given room to decide; He gathered the reward and flew away.
