@ericvideos91 Agreed. Canada electorate is too apathetic to resist. That said, European countries with more active resistence are also succumbing. It would help to understand WHY the authorities are driving so fast toward this collapse?
@cairoasmith Agreed! In 2026, the average viewer struggles with attention span and certainly does not have the patience/tolerance for Digger’s conceits. Moreover, the element of surprise is not needed. Digger works better when you know. Don’t worry, it will endure.
@GEvans96@BecomeFranklin it’s a hypocrisy movie! Naive climate-change lectures talk in terms of good guys and bad guys. Digger is in a subset that says we’re all stupid hypocrites, indulging ourselves to death.
@BysCys68812 The characters in the scene see an empty room throughout. The theatre audience never see. We the movie audience (unreliable camera) see food and wonder if Digger conjured a miracle? Cult-leaders exploit wishful-thinkers who should know better and ultimately believe their own lies
@BysCys68812@verybrookie but how would they do this (visualize Digger’s delusional pov) in a stage play? it’s like other scenes when we (the camera) see a convincing imaginary view (of planes and clouds) that degrades into theatrical props and scenery. it’s more meta than the show-within-a-show framing.
@TheChrisLambert His mother knew the environmental story was fake but the public needed it to salve their conscience. Likewise, Kenny says satire allows sufficient public catharisis to accept the disaster and carry on. Not evil. Just cruelly indifferent, like a detached ice-shelf.
@smhrbst Not searing satire. Not even funny. But an original, entertaining, thought-provoking, coherent, lavish piece of cinema for the ages ... which you damn with faint praise, ok. Meanwhile OBAA seemed patchy to me. So I guess we're lucky to have such choice?
@redroomrantings The makers call it comedy and a satire (of satire?). But the only LOL it got from me was the surprise in the credits. The funniest aspect of the whole project is the mad confidence of master film-makers with nothing to prove who don't care whether you "get" it or not.
@rue_lou@trappedkrinkle You're scared? Cruise does these walkabouts knowing anyone in the crowd could be a crazy attacker. (Look what they did to John Lennon!). Cruise's reaction here shows remarkable presence and character.
@delusionalhulk Nah, because, due to TV budgets, every cool sequence like this was padded by 20mins of people talking in rooms, and that’s just boring, so people stopped watching.
