myself and some really cool people created podcasts all about online learning tools. check them out!! @uwindsored #TheOpenPage#UWinToolParade#InsertLearning https://t.co/VVVHaAKEor
Forget about looking smart,
focus on being smarter.
It makes you look stupid though.
Forget about being loved,
focus on loving yourself more.
It takes courage though.
Forget about being happy,
focus on making others happy.
It takes patience to get why though.
Best thing you’ll watch today. Teacher in Pittsburg (40 miles east of San Francisco) uses @lizzo to inspire and teach her kids. @PittsburgUSD @BayAreaProud
@MrJEdmunds@MissKayGeorge i know it's not the *funnest* thing to learn, but such an important part of being an aware citizen & educator today #unboundeq
@bonstewart I think it's scary, but also cool, how much our devices are able to learn about us. I've found many resources from teachers sharing lesson plans, essay questions, and other in class activities that I wouldn't of found without algorithms #unboundeq
@CallieJ84837922@bonstewart I couldn’t agree more, Callie! the “big heads” that are in charge of these Al’s probably have no idea the direct harm these biases cause. let the bombarding begin! #unboundeq
@bonstewart directly quoting Eisenstat's article (again): "the tech industry needs to actually invest in real cognitive bias, training and empower true experts to address these issues" fighting biases takes work, especially since they've been set in place for so long #unboundeq
and that people are never what they seem. getting students to think critically about biases feels like a good start to teaching about the impacts algorithms can have on society #unboundeq
when teaching about algorithmic biases it's important to make students aware that the stereotypes Al's perpetuate aren't reality. going back to Eisenstat's article, it's the idea that not all conservatives are anti-LGBTQ+ #unboundeq
@StephF83703274@bonstewart the only way to stop algorithmic biases is to be aware that they exist. this needs to go back to the people who create algorithms. making sure minority groups are well represented when making Al's feels like a good start! #unboundeq
@bonstewart he gives an example of a coworker who assumed conservatives were anti-LGBTQ, and targeted ads to that demographic without thinking of the other side #unboundeq
@bonstewart we assume algorithms are fair because they're like a science, or a math. we tend to forget that algorithms are created by people who have biases, as mentioned in Eisenstat's article #unboundeq
