@Lauran_spier Waiting use to be my weakness. One thing I do is talk with them about their scores or grades and ask them how they can stay motivated to work hard. I've noticed if they "come up" with the idea on their own, they are more likely to stay on task.
Unit 1 Assignment-the "Ah-ha's"
1. Good ideas, like learning, develop over time.
2. Students exhibit deeper understanding (agency) when they persevere, and overcome a challenge. Just having the skills to do so isn't enough.

@OmarBennettJr1 Pen and paper is a great thing to keep near by! I have my students jot down notes or ideas when we read. I did this more with science, but I'm sure it can work with all subjects.
@SarahCo9318 Very true!!! My first year of teaching, I was really bad about jumping in first thing, but now I'm better about giving students time to think and solve on their own.
@birnell_mw I like to have students work in groups and talk with classmates. I always try to connect content with things they like. Technology and movement is another way I encourage learning and understanding.
@MrsRhodenIn1st During instruction, I like to have students work in groups as much as possible. It seems when they can talk it out with their peers, they don't feel alone or get discouraged as easily.
