It's the Easter holidays (2026), and I have two copies of Primary Reading Simplified to give away!
For your chance to win, simply retweet this tweet *or* reply below with the name of a children's book that you love.
(Or you can do both to double your chance of winning!)
I've seen a fair few people suggest recently that the 'science of reading' can essentially be boiled down to two messages:
1. Explicitly teach kids to decode (i.e. systematic phonics).
2. Build knowledge.
But in many schools, these two things alone will fail.

An inspiring few weeks of professional learning! From singing with @onlyboysaloud at a PSE day to meeting @ShonetteBason and exploring the power of the outdoors in Early Years . I also enjoyed a fantastic woodwork training day this week with @PeteMoorhouse.
Finding these little gems when Iโm having a spring clean. This letter was written by one of my previous pupils when they were 6. Itโs so sweet, but knowing I helped them learn how to write means the world. ๐๐ฉโ๐ซ๐ซถ๐ผ
This week I am grateful for the opportunity to attend a Wellbeing conference earlier in the week. Today I am getting some exercise in with a gymnastics training session to develop my skills as a teacher. ๐ฉโ๐ซ ๐ซถ๐ผ #lovetolearn
