Legitimizing the terrorist organization MEK as a representative of the Iranian people repeats the historic mistake of 1979, when the world ignored the voice of the Iranian nation, legitimized an extremist movement, and helped pave the way for 47 years of repression, terrorism, and the destruction of Iran.

With its documented history of terrorism, cult-like practices, suppression of internal dissent, and collaboration with Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq War, the MEK has neither legitimacy nor any popular support inside Iran.

A group that denies freedom, human rights, and pluralism within its own ranks can never credibly claim to build a free and democratic future for Iran.

This time, the international community must listen to the voice of the Iranian people—not a group that Iranians do not recognize as their representative. During nationwide protests, millions of Iranians chanted the name of Reza Pahlavi (Reza Shah II) as a symbol of national unity and hope for Iran’s future.

Iran deserves freedom, the rule of law, prosperity, and national dignity not a repeat of the mistake whose consequences the Iranian people have endured for nearly half a century.

Legitimizing the MEK as a representative of the Iranian people is a distortion of reality. Because of its long record of terrorism, violence, cult-like practices, and collaboration with Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq War, the MEK has no legitimacy or popular mandate in the eyes of Iranians.

Any organization that claims to stand for freedom, democracy, and human rights must first uphold those values within its own ranks. A group that suppresses internal dissent and silences its critics cannot credibly claim to offer a democratic future for Iran.
