⅔ of birds are red/amber listed, ⅓ of bees headed for extinction, ½ of waterways in poor status, general insectagedon... but a modest proposal to do something (anything) is going "too far" for some.
We must #RestoreNature !
May not look like much but here’s my first ever crack at making oat milk at home, using organic Irish oats
Looks good; taste is so-so but should improve with practice. It’s also an education in *insane* producer/retailer mark-ups (€3/litre!) on this simple product
Important to get the messaging right - plant milks do not contain lactose.
A person can typically digest mammalian milks when they're being nursed as a baby - once older and weaned, suckling is no longer necessary for healthy living.
Lidl Ireland says it will reduce the price of milk in-store effective from tomorrow, bringing the price of a 2-litre carton from 2.29 to €2.19. The supermarket chain says it is the first Irish retailer to reduce the price of milk. We need to see more of this. @lidl_ireland
It makes sense to advocate increased domestic oat consumption by humans directly, either in milk form or otherwise.
Otherwise we are likely to relinquish sovereignty over another crop we can sustain. All aboard the oat hype train!
Does it not make more sense to be advocating increased oat consumption in its raw form rather than in an ultra processed form?
We go through 1.5kgs of oats a week..we use it as porridge but we also use it to make pancakes among other things.

In 2020 the irish alternative milk market was worth 68m
For pig iron let’s say that is entirely made up of oat milk.(stay with me on this!)
Assume that 1 litre of it sells for €2.90
68m divided by 2.90 = 23,448,275 litres sold
