ADUs are proving to be a crucial release valve for the pressures our neighborhoods are facing in these formidable times.
@PhilTing@CasitaCoalition The response has been tremendous, and cities have been supportive. But they need help to handle the spike in demand. Some of this can come from improved approval processes, which weโve seen Covid accelerate in some ways. Still, we feel cities need additional funding and staff.
New Study: CA has potential to increase its affordable housing supply with 1.5 million new #ADUs. I keep pushing to make it easier for homeowners to add them b/c these property additions/backyard units help keep family close by or generate rental income. https://t.co/9RyVZguxil
The shittiness of sprawl goes way beyond climate. It reaches so far as to create desolation in our own minds. It is a historical artifact, a structural absurdity that we are correcting. https://t.co/ZYkU8noSzn
Great news from the Senate! AB 69 by Asm @PhilTing, which establishes a loan funding program for ADUs, โ passesโ , helping get housing out there and the economy going again! Letโs keep up the progress today! Contact your Assemblymember to support SB 1120! https://t.co/gaVoddSdz9
A sponsored bill, AB 3182, which prohibits HOAs from totally banning tenants, goes to the Governor! Itโll get more ADUs out there and give tenants a chance to live in opportunity neighborhoods. A major thank you to our champions, Asm @PhilTing and @SenGonzalez_33 (and staff!)
ADUs are one of the very few new housing types that will get built in this part of the cycle. Thankfully they are useful for getting elderly relatives and college-aged kids out of congregate settings fast thanks to last yearโs law AB68.

Decentralized commercial real estate would be crazy.
Put a network of individual VR rooms in backyards and garages.
The office itself is then in the cloud, provided as a service, infinitely configurable.

My latest in @Forbes Iโve been fascinated watching the NIMBY movement in CA and the government response. Hereโs my take on why ADUs will be big in 2020. CA will lead the way. #afforablehousing#adu#technology
