I wonder if we, Myanmar, had not ruled the Lanna region for over two hundred years, would you have even had clothes? Shame of your reasons!

Luntaya Acheik is the exclusive cultural heritage of Myanmar, historically worn only by the Myanmar people. It is neither Thai nor Lanna attire. Copying our authentic heritage is an unethical act of cultural appropriation.

Here is the historical account: During the reign of King Mindon, a princess from Chiang Mai visited Myanmar. When she returned home, she was so impressed by Myanmar’s traditional weaving, particularly the Burmese acheik (silk textile) and the traditional Wedawyantha dance, that she took them back with her. She also brought Myanmar dancers to Chiang Mai.
She admired Myanmar acheik textiles and incorporated them into clothing alongside her own traditional Lanna designs. The dance was also influenced by what she had seen in Myanmar. That is the historical background.
Now, you are erasing that history and claiming that these cultural elements originated from your own country and belong exclusively to your own traditions. You are even planning to submit them to UNESCO without properly acknowledging their origins.
Open your eyes and ears! We are speaking up because we will not allow Myanmar’s cultural heritage to be misrepresented as another country’s original culture.
The acheik longyi originated in Myanmar and is an important part of Myanmar’s traditional cultural heritage. The world recognizes the acheik longyi as traditional Burmese attire.
You are free to admire it, wear it, and incorporate it into your own designs. But if you use another country’s cultural heritage, you must give proper credit and acknowledge Myanmar as its cultural source.
Admiration is not ownership. Cultural exchange is not cultural appropriation. Respect Myanmar’s cultural heritage and give credit where credit is due.🇲🇲🇲🇲🇲🇲🙏🙏🙏
19th-century royal manuscripts (Parabaik) prove the distinct origin of Luntaya Acheik. Regional cultural exchange exists, but inspiration must never erase original historical origins.

#Why doesn’t GMMTV use its own traditional culture when it has its own? Why doesn’t GMMTV showcase its own cultural heritage in its productions? Is GMMTV ashamed of its own traditional culture?🇲🇲🇲🇲🇲🇲
This question is not intended to offend Thailand or Thai people in any way. Don’t you think you should be questioning GMMTV and holding the production company accountable instead?🇲🇲🇲🇲🇲🇲🙏🙏🙏
