The Telegraph newsletter today has an online tool to help its readers calculate “how much of your salary bankrolls the welfare state” - and the 4 million people too sick or disabled to work.
I feel quite sick. They are literally baiting their readers to ask what a burden we are.
When he was running to be leader, Keir Starmer told Jamie Driscoll that you cant create unity through discipline, and the only way to unite the Labour party is to create a culture and spirit where people genuinely want to work together.
Wow.
Labour has *blocked* the incumbent north east mayor from standing. What we are seeing is honestly without precedent - I sincerely believe @Keir_Starmer is a threat to civil liberties, free speech & basic decency.
It simply can’t be addressed as what it was - an organically arising anti-austerity movement, mostly composed of members of the public seeking to improve most people’s lot in life - because if it was that, well, what kind of horrible bastards would pull the roof down to crush it.
Tell that to my profoundly mentally disabled non verbal adult stepson. Tell me, where would you employ him? Or the 50 year old early onset dementia patient. Or the quadriplegic that needs someone to change their nappy every three hours. Or the veteran that gave all he had in service to his country , who now has such severe PTSD, he cannot leave his home without help …… @BBCRadio2 has just been deleted from my favourites.
Priveliged white male ….
Keir Starmer then: "If I'm honest, the Labour Party has been a bit scared of making the positive case for immigration for quite a number of years. And I think we need to turn that round"
Keir Starmer now: "THEY'VE LOST CONTROL OF IMMIGRATION"
Meas Lorn survived multiple U.S. airstrikes as a child. So I asked Henry Kissinger to answer her question: “Why did they drop bombs here?” He refused. “I’m not smart enough for you,” he said sarcastically. “I lack your intelligence and moral quality.” https://t.co/WvtYZ4NCax
Today I’ve heard Starmer answer a lot of questions on his plans for the #NHS but I’ve got one very simple one
@Keir_Starmer , if you believe in the #NHS why do you take donations from those involved in private health care?
Do your job #MSM
Right-wing vigilantist populism against climate protest is a dire measure of our failure to articulate the class politics of how climate catastrophe will land. Those ‘just trying to get to work’ will have a harder time when we all live in a +2° world in which there is no ‘normal’
Good thread. The dynamic we have to break is that the worse the Tories are the worse things get and the more we need change (and more radical change) but the less Labour feel compelled to offer. There’s no question of the need for pressure from their left that really costs them.
Amazingly (!) ITV is going to show the film Ithaka: The Fight to Free Julian Assange on Sunday night.
It's a coup to get it on terrestrial TV in the country that's holding him captive. It's about the campaign of Assange's dad and his wife @Stella_Assange against his imprisonment
Black Labour MPs are afraid to speak publicly about racism in the Labour Party for fear of losing the whip.
Insidious to say the least that Starmer is running the party in such a way.
I am proud to represent Islington North in Parliament.
I have spent the past 40 years campaigning alongside my community for a mass redistribution of wealth, ownership and power. That is what I’ll continue to do.
In 2020, when Keir Starmer made the commitment to nationalise the profiteering private water industry, UK general govt debt was 119% of GDP. Now its 104%, he's u-turned and says the country can't afford it.
Work that out
Ruth Kelly is a former New Labour Cabinet minister turned spokesperson for the literal shitshow of the water industry.
Why is it there is a revolving door between Blairite politicians and the most obnoxious vested interests in Britain?
