Wissam comes every week to play chess. With every move, he sharpens his critical thinking, builds skills that shape his future, and inspires other children around him.

With the support of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the Government of Australia and Norway, more children are gaining access to safe spaces to learn, play and dream of a brighter future.

UNICEF carried out an assessment mission to As-Sweida, where we visited Athallah water treatment station, a lifeline for over 300,000 people. At a time when children and families continue to face immense needs, we appreciate the efforts of the Interim Authorities to facilitate access to those in need. Their increased commitment is a vital and welcome step in ensuring lifesaving services reach the most vulnerable children.

With thanks to partners, UNICEF supported the urgent needs of children and women, UNICEF has:
• Supplied 44,000 litres of fuel to Dar’a and As-Sweida Water Establishments, enabling more than 215,000 people to access clean and safe water
• Distributed bottled water reaching 40,000 people
• trucked water benefitting 150,000 people
• Rehabilitated WASH facilities in ten schools that are being used as shelters for nearly 5,000 internally displaced people.
UNICEF remains on the ground, committed to reaching every child in need. Yet, we need to do more. We urge our partners to step up their support #forEveryChild.
