A letter that my colleagues and I wrote regarding the installation of a U.S. military base in the Galápagos Islands has been published in @ScienceMagazine. This decision is unconstitutional, as it violates multiple articles of the Ecuadorian Constitution, which recognizes nature as a subject of rights and guarantees its right to exist, maintain its vital cycles, and preserve its structure, functions, and evolutionary processes. The establishment of a military base not only undermines the Constitution and Ecuador’s sovereignty but also sets a dangerous precedent for violating international treaties designed to protect globally significant ecosystems.

Genetic diversity has declined within two-thirds of more than 600 species over the past three decades, according to research published in @Nature. The findings highlight the need for conservation efforts to prevent genetic diversity loss. https://t.co/l3VXlL53L4
Out now in @Nature! Our comprehensive meta-analysis of global terrestrial and marine genetic diversity demonstrates rapid loss of genetic diversity and identifies conservation interventions that could mitigate this process
