Today, we welcomed to our campus the European diplomats participating in the Natolin Borderland Study Trip Module, part of the European Diplomatic Academy @EUDiploAcademy. The module focuses on the impact of regional security on Europe and the EU in light of the war waged by Russia in Ukraine.

Since its establishment, the College of Europe in Natolin has specialized in EU enlargement and policies toward the EU's neighbours. Within this specialization, the 3R project has been one of the flagship initiatives of Natolin since 2016. Through research, publications, and conferences, the project aims to analyze the current situation in Ukraine, focusing on the three most significant protests that have taken place since 1990: the Revolution on Granite (1990), the Orange Revolution (2004-2005), and the Euromaidan Revolution (2013-2014), in addition to the ongoing full-scale invasion by Russia.
Watch the video below about the 3R project. Special thanks go to: Iryna Vereszchuk, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories, Andrii Deschchytsia @ADeshchytsia, Former Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland, Kurt Volker @kvolker, Former Ambassador of the United States of America to NATO (2008-2009) and Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations (2017-2019), Zygimantas Pavilionis @ZygisPavilionis , Member of the Parliament of Lithuania, Garry Kasparov @Kasparov63, Founder and Chairman of the Renew Democracy Initiative, Prof. Richard Butterwick-Pawlikowski, Chairholder of the European Civilization Chair at the College of Europe in Natolin, Prof. Georges Mink, Permanent Professor at College of Europe in Natolin, Prof. Paweł Kowal @pawelkowalpl and Dr Iwona Reichardt @iwonareichardt , from the 3R project, and ASN @ASN_Org .

Part of the Natolin's #WesternBalkansTeam headed for Belgrade makes a crucial stop along the journey.
A deeply emotional visit to @SrebrenicaMC serves as a poignant reminder of the consequences of international inaction in the face of genocide. The victims of the 1995 Srebrenica massacre urge us all to stand up against today's war criminals. #NeverForget
#Srebrenica #Genocide #WarCrimes
The final stop for the Natolin’s #BrusselsTeam today is @Euractiv, a media platform that covers EU news, to meet Alexandra Brzozowski @alex_owski, the Global Europe & Defence Reporter, and Chris Powers, Audience Manager, for in-depth insights and analysis on 'Reporting on European Union affairs in turbulent times'. We engaged in a fruitful exchange about the resilience of media against manipulation as well as #EURACTIV cooperation with media and governments in the EU’s #neighbourhood. #EUaffairs #Insights.
The day continued with a walk through the modern history of Bosnia and Herzegovina, guided by Mr Boris Filipi. As we traversed the iconic bridges of Mostar, we delved into the intricate tapestry of the region's past, where each arch tells a tale of resilience and transformation. Natolin’s #WesternBalkansTeam
Natolin's #NordicBalticTeam has arrived in Tartu! Our first introductory lecture is on the History of the Baltic States: An Overview with Dr. Heiko Pääbo from the Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies @skytteUT, University of Tartu @unitartu.
It was truly an honour to host Mr Xavier Espot Zamora @XavierEspot, the Prime Minister of Andorra, on his inaugural visit to Warsaw! The welcoming remarks were delivered by the Vice-Rector of the College of Europe @eosniecka. Engaging with our students, Mr Espot Zamora delivered an insightful lecture entitled "Andorra: Global Challenges, Local Opportunities," sparking lively discussions during the Q&A session. The visit was co-organized by our Andorran students, Cezara Corduneanu, who delivered the introductory words, and Pol Revert Loosveldt, who moderated the discussion.
Today, the College of Europe in Natolin hosted a group of local primary and high school students from Warsaw and beyond who gathered to mark the upcoming 20th anniversary of Poland’s EU accession within the framework of the “Young Europeans Forum”. Many of our guests were Youth Councillors in their districts, and they are preparing for the European Congress of Youth Councils that will take place this May in Chęciny, Poland.
During a direct conversation, the Vice-Rector of the College of Europe, @EOsniecka, shared with our guests some of Natolin’s passions: EU enlargement, European Studies, diplomacy, and politics. She spoke about her personal experience as the Vice-Rector of the College but also as a former Secretary of State for European Affairs in the Polish government, and shared her unique insights into the process of Poland's EU integration.
The event encompassed a discussion on the benefits of EU membership for young people, including two Natolin alumni on the panel, which was an excellent chance for all the participants to share their views and understanding of the EU. Our young guests could also learn about the College of Europe and its mission to research and teach European affairs, as well as visit the historical premises of Natolin. It was indeed our great pleasure to host so many bright young people who are passionate about Europe. See you soon!
At Natolin, we conduct many high-level projects. One of them is Natolin4Capacity Building, an EU-funded project, in which we train Ukrainian civil servants working on European integration. So far, 6500 people, from 970 institutions, registered on the e-learning platform.
We have also trained on site participants representing 12 Ukrainian ministries such as the Ministry of Economy, Foreign Affairs, Energy, Health, Justice, Digital Transformation, and Internal Affairs, and a number of other public institutions. The project is run by the Natolin Executive Education team. Find out more here: https://t.co/OKY6QFSC56

Poland is celebrating today the 25th anniversary of its accession to @NATO together with the Czech Republic and Hungary as part of the post-Cold War enlargement.
Bronisław Geremek, the late Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, signed the Act of Accession on behalf of Poland in the presence of then US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright in 1999. Geremek was a professor at the College of Europe in Natolin since 2000, and the first holder of the European Civilisation Chair.
Madeleine K. Albright has been chosen as the ‘patronne de promotion’ for the 2023/2024 academic year of the College of Europe. We will always remember the two visits of Hon. Albright to Natolin, the latter when she inaugurated Natolin's Zbigniew Brzeziński Memorial Lecture Series in 2019. The main goal of the series is to highlight Brzeziński’s political and diplomatic legacy, based on ethics, values, and human rights. These values, particularly important to Natolin, have the potential to strengthen the transatlantic alliance.
Yesterday, we hosted Mr @EnricoLetta , former PM of #Italy & current President of @DelorsInstitute. Recently, the European Council has entrusted Mr Letta to draw up a report on the future of the #SingleMarket. Mr Letta’s visit to Warsaw is part of his travels to many EU countries to meet with government officials, financiers, and academics.
During the meeting, which was part of #NatolinTransformingIdeas, we experimented with a new format, where students: @jakub_knopp, @MaisuradzeGV, Doriane Vassal, William Vandeput Cugnon, Fred Long, Anatole Bonnardeau, and Wojciech Wieczorek prepared short briefs and questions on Energy Security, Green Transition, and EU Enlargement. The meeting was moderated by Olaf Osica in the presence of the Vice-Rector @EOsniecka. No question was off the table and Mr Letta offered his feedback on the briefs. Thank you Mr Enrico Letta, for your time and engaging discussion!
After much anticipation, on 29 February 2024, we published the first episode of Natolin Nest Talks podcast! This episode is dedicated to a conference titled "The Rough Sea: Mediterranean Routes of Migration to the European Union". Our students spoke to Ms Ana Cristina Jorge, Director of the Operational Response Division at @Frontex , as well as Dr @PatrycjaSasnal, Mentor of the Natolin Academy of Migration Nest and expert of the Advisory Committee of @UN_HRC. Have a listen! https://t.co/olVw0m6fEQ
Today, we are commemorating the two-year anniversary of the war in Ukraine. Over the past weeks, our Ukrainian students have been organizing a series of events, including one of the first screenings in Poland of the documentary @20DaysMariupol, which took place on 12 February 2024 in Natolin.
The film was nominated for an Oscar in the "Best Documentary" category and won the London Critics' Circle Awards. It chronicles the story of Ukrainian journalists in besieged Mariupol, who are documenting the atrocities of war. Watch a short video from the screening and an interview with Liudmyla Vaskovska, a doctor from the hospital in Mariupol.
Thank you, @WATCH_DOCS!
On the occasion of the recent visit of Mr Toomas Hendrik Ilves @IlvesToomas to @coenatolin in January, we had the opportunity to ask the former President of Estonia questions about his country’s experience in digital transition, as well as key challenges and opportunities ahead of the EU. Listen to his answers!
