जब देवीलाल ने दिया चंद्रशेखर को धोखा ...

साढ़े छत्तीस साल पहले, 1 दिसंबर 1989 को, अरुण नेहरू के जालबट्टे में फंस कर चैधरी देवीलाल ने संसद के केंद्रीय कक्ष में चंद्रशेखर को ऐसा धोखा दिया कि पूरा देश सन्न रह गया। विश्वनाथ प्रताप सिंह ने देवीलाल को जनता दल की संसदीय पार्टी का नेता चुनने का प्रस्ताव पेश किया। चंद्रशेखर ने प्रस्ताव का समर्थन किया। सर्वसम्मति से प्रस्ताव पारित हो गया। यानी देवीलाल प्रधानमंत्री बन गए। मगर देवीलाल खड़े हुए, सब को धन्यवाद दिया और ऐलान कर दिया कि मैं प्रधानमंत्री नहीं बनना चाहता और विश्वनाथ प्रताप सिंह को अपनी तरफ़ से इस पद के लिए नामजद करता हूं। चंद्रशेखर समेत ज़्यादातर लोग अवाक् रह गए। बाद में चंद्रशेखर ने खुल कर अपने गुस्से का इज़हार किया।

I was lying in a medical facility on a remote island in the South Indian Ocean, recently shipwrecked and rescued.

On the 2nd day, the French doctor rushed in:“Is the Prime Minister of India an important man?”

I thought it a silly question—until he added: “He is going to call you.”

I thought someone was pulling a fast one. But the PM did call. He recalled meeting me at his residence and asked after my health. Between hiccups, pain and burning in my chest, I told him his words gave me the courage to return to sea.

He later spoke about it in Mann Ki Baat.

It did not end there. A few days later, INS Satpura arrived. I was airlifted, and the Commanding Officer told me the PMO had been seeking updates every 15 minutes!

"गणेश शंकर विद्यार्थी मेस्टन रोड पर बनी मस्जिद के पास चौबे गोला पहुंचे। जहां वो दोनों तरफ से मुस्लिम दंगाइयों की भीड़ में फंस गये। एक चश्मदीद के मुताबिक, मुसलमानों की भीड़ में से एक व्यक्ति चिल्लाया कि - "ये गणेश शंकर विद्यार्थी है, इसे मार डालो... ये बचकर न जाने पाए"... इसके बाद दोनों तरफ से भीड़ विद्यार्थी जी की तरफ दौड़ पड़ी। पास पहुंचकर किसी ने उनकी पीठ पर चाकू से वार किया वहीं एक व्यक्ति ने उन पर कुल्हाड़ी से हमला कर दिया। वो वहीं नीचे गिर पड़े।"

Last night I was driving from Panjim to Ashvem and saw a traffic police officer checking cars. He had a body cam recording the entire interaction. I asked him about it, and he said CM @DrPramodPSawant has made a rule in Goa that only officers with body cams can issue challans. This isn’t just stopping corruption, it’s bringing real transparency into the system. I genuinely feel all states should follow this model.

Terrific starcast, lovely music and RAW action sequences. Story rooted in Indian culture.

It took a BUMPER initial in 1993 but suffered at the box-office because Bombay Bombay Blasts happened just 2-3 days after its release... and some organisations stopped the screenings as #SanjayDutt's name came up.

The climax still gives me goosebumps.

To me, it's the BEST movie of #JPDutta after #Border.
