Great ideas have the power to change the world, but only if they’re protected.
That is the central message driving Day Three of our Urban Futures Entrepreneurship Masterclass, where Perseverance Muzeya, Founder and CEO of Alzanael Group, is leading participants through Safeguarding Green Innovation: Intellectual Property Rights for Sustainable Food Systems.
Today’s session challenges young entrepreneurs to think beyond creating innovative products and solutions by asking critical questions: How do I protect my business idea? How do I safeguard my brand? What legal mechanisms exist to prevent others from copying my innovation?
Participants are exploring the importance of patents, trademarks, copyrights, and industrial designs, and how these tools can protect green technologies, sustainable packaging, unique food products, and business identities. The discussions also highlight how intellectual property rights can attract investment, strengthen market competitiveness, and enable entrepreneurs to confidently commercialise their innovations.
For many entrepreneurs, their greatest asset isn’t the machinery they own or the capital they raise, it’s the originality of their ideas. Knowing how to protect those ideas is essential to building businesses that are resilient, competitive, and built to last.
Through the #UrbanFutures Entrepreneurship Masterclass, Green Governance Zimbabwe is nurturing a new generation of entrepreneurs who are equipped not only to innovate but also to protect, grow, and sustain enterprises that contribute to resilient urban food systems and a greener economy.
The future belongs not only to those who innovate, but to those who know how to protect their innovation.

The Secretary General to the Convention on Wetlands, Dr Musonda Mumba, is currently in Dublin participating in a conference exploring the intersection between policy and wetlands.
Discussions have highlighted the deep cultural connection between people and wetlands in Ireland, underscoring how these ecosystems are closely woven into community identity.
During the keynote address, the Secretary General emphasized the importance of implementing the Convention on Wetlands as a pathway to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Building strong synergies for conservation remains essential to shaping a shared and sustainable future.
At the heart of these efforts are communities, whose role in wetland protection and awareness raising is critical. Strengthening this connection is key to advancing conservation and ensuring the sustainable management of wetlands worldwide.

A lesser known benefit of the humble street tree🌳 is its ability to reduce urban noise🚗🥁
How?👇
🛑Reflect sound
🧽Absorb sound vibrations
🎶Create white noise – wind through leaves
Trees & other vegetation help create a calmer space for us to live 🧘
Join us next week at #COP29 for a side event on #peatlands.
