Many Orthodox Christians today, particularly boomers. Have grown to reject the concept of Orthodox Monarchy because they've been convinced by the classical liberal idea that power corrupts. The Eastern Romans/Byzantines didn't see power that way. They understood more correctly that power doesn't corrupt people. It reveals the corruption already in them. It acts as a magnifying affect of the state of one' soul.
The difference comes from the classical liberal ideas from enlightenment philosophers John Locke and Thomas Hobbes that human rights and individual liberty are natural and political power is artificial. While the Eastern Romans/Byzantines had the moral and theological Apostolic understanding that political power is bestowed on rulers by God Himself.
"1. Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.
2. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.
3. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same.
4. For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.
5. Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake.
6. For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing.
7. Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.
8. Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law." - Romans 13:1-8
This is why the Eastern Romans/Byzantines supported an Autocratic ruler of good character to uphold and enforcement Orthodox Christian morality, theology, and justice.
Along with practical concepts of governorship from the socratic philosophers. Such as Plato, Aristotle, and Zeno that the most practical form of governance was an Autocratic ruler who was most meritocratically qualified with soundness of mind.
The classical liberal mind would think all of this just enables tyranny. When in fact it does the opposite. When an Emperor was incompetent and/or wouldn't fulfill his moral duty to the people. He was simply overthrown and replaced with a better Emperor.
While when governments that function on classical liberal principles become tyrannical. Replacing the head of state doesn't change much because political power is spread out amongst either an unelected bureaucracy or a private equity oligarchy. This is a contradiction within the classical liberal political framework.
This proves that while Christian, even Orthodox Christian Autocracy, is prone to problems. It is still much more practical, moral, and just than a classical liberal political system.
@TheB0xedMan@LowStudies This is the ignorance of your position here, Jay doesn’t support Andrew blindly and by him saying that Andrew won the debate doesn’t mean he now accepts all of Andrew’s positions on the topic.
@TheB0xedMan@LowStudies Did you watch his 45+ minute take on the debate? It’s more nuanced then saying Andrew won. Which I agree with in the sense that candance didn’t bring any hard proof of her wild claims. Which doesn’t mean I or Jay agree with the TPUSA stance.
@TheB0xedMan@LowStudies If I understand Jay’s position it’s that he doesn’t buy the straight cut theory that it was solely Tyler Robinson and that there was middle eastern influence of some kind. I don’t see how that’s on the side of TPUSA.
