BIG SCOOP! 🚨
Africa’s defence technology startup, Terra Industries, @terraindustries, co-founded by @_KingNath and @Max_Sengu, has raised $11.75 million in seed funding — one of the largest seed rounds in Africa — to build autonomous defence systems in Africa.
Backers: The round was led by US venture firm 8VC, founded by Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale. Alex Moore, a Board Director at Palantir, has joined Terra’s board.
Off stealth: Terra’s just out of stealth mode, but the company already secures critical infrastructure valued at $11 billion across the continent.
Hardware power: The startup has built the largest drone factory in Africa, a 15,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Abuja, Nigeria.
2026 will be a big year in African tech, I can feel it! 🚀

Wow
It's January 3rd, and today I've already done:
- a live event to build LLMs using Rust (Rig) @joshmo_dev
- a talk about Rust and Web development in 2026 @rust_africa
Many people attended.
2026 is gonna be AMAZING 🔥🔥🔥
Wow. I'm still trying to process the last few days as my timeline continues to be flooded with posts from Commit Your Code.
To be honest, I'm feeling pretty emotional about it all.
When I started CYC I had a vision I just couldn't shake with a shoestring budget, hoping to create something special for the Dallas tech community. You pour your heart and soul into a thing, hoping it works, hoping people connect with it. But you never truly know until it happens.
And then... it happens.
The thing you built takes on a life of its own.
- I have executives message me, not with feedback, but with pure excitement.
- Managers telling me how deeply impressed they were with the ambition and talent of the junior devs they met.
- DevRel pros, who have seen it all, told me they witnessed things at CYC for the very first time.
- We even have sponsors already asking about CYC26 when I don't even know if there will be A CYC26!
But of all the incredible feedback, one comment has appeared time and time again, and it’s the one that hits me right in the chest: "This is a conference for the people."
I couldn't have said it better myself. That was the goal. That was the dream. To create a space that wasn't about exclusivity or rockstars, but about connection, learning, and genuine community. A place for all of y'all!
Seeing the speakers, the volunteers, the sponsors, and every single attendee just bring that dream to life is a feeling I can only describe as being a proud tech papa. Watching this community flourish is the greatest reward.
We had a speaker have their Dad come and see them speak in person who drove 5 hours to see it 🥹
I don't have words y'all.
Here are some numbers:
- We had 860 In-person.
- We had over 8,000 virtual attendees which is just absolutely WILD to me.
- We had 3 in person external events AND 3 virtual ones for online attendees! 🤯
Thank you for making CYC what it was. Y'all are the magic and I am just completely amazed right now.

Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!
And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.
Nvidia has reinvented the computer as we know it. Now they will focus on high tech manufacturing in the U.S. It's amazing to watch in real-time. The only bottleneck across the board seems to be energy. And it looks like everyone is working on it. $NVDA
