Hey @MarshaCollier They can be effective but there is alot to think about and can be highly dangerous if you don't understand fire behavior and the capabilites of the pump. That being said I believe you being a home owner have the right to protect your home. Not to mention on big events in the first few hours the fire department can get overwhelmed due to staffing levels and delayed mutual response. Having a pump is positive in many ways. It can allow you to take care of small spot fires on your property or your neighbors. Best to keep the fires small. Once one house is fully going it can spread quickly to the neighborhood. The pool is also a solid water source, depending on the local system the pressure may get depleted by all the water being used on other parts of the fire and people using their garden hoses. Having a pool is also good as it is another water source for the fire department. Let them know you have one and help them preplan. The best defense though is defensible space that is done way before fire season. This not only keeps the fire farther away from your home, when firefighters come through and have a chance at saving yours versus the others they will do the most good for the most people. If really neighborly get your neighbors to join you in good defensible space it will make a big difference plus this give the fire department a fighting chance for you and your neighbors. Since there are so many variables you should invite your local fire department to your house and have them help identify hazards you may have and challenges you may face if or when a fire comes through. Sorry for the long message complicated question, with deadly outcomes if not done right.

I am not an arborist so I don't have an answer to that. What you can do to prep your house is make sure all the holes are covered so no embers can blow into your attic space. Also keep your back yard clean and debris free this reduces the fire load and if you have an ember land you can put it out fast with a garden hose. Not sure of your local regulations but if you have a few friends that can take them down for you, or maybe trade a skill set you have for some tree work. I wish you the best, stay safe out there.

There was a claim circulating on social media about an election night ballot update at the Los Angeles Registrar of Voters where one candidate received zero votes.

We reviewed official county records. The claim is false. Each candidate received votes in every update.

Dear @WhiteHouse, my name is Rodney Smith Jr., founder of Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service in Huntsville, Alabama. Through our 50 Yard Challenge, over 6,000 kids across the country have signed up to mow free lawns for the elderly, disabled, veterans, active-duty military, first responders, and single parents. With America celebrating its 250th birthday this year and me also being born on July 4th, I wanted to humbly ask if a few kids from our program and myself could travel to Washington, D.C. to help mow the White House lawn for this historic celebration.
