Since 2009, South Africa has witnessed a dangerous erosion of constitutional values, weakening public trust in democratic institutions.
COPE was formed because we rejected this trajectory. We remain unwavering defenders of constitutional democracy, ethical governance, and accountability.
No one is above the Constitution. #COPE #ConstitutionalAccountability

COPE WELCOMES THE ARRESTS OF SAPS OFFICERS IN THE MEDICARE24 TENDER SCANDAL.
For Immediate Release
The Congress of the People gratefully welcomes the arrest of 12 senior South African Police Service officers for their alleged involvement in the corrupt awarding of a R360-million health services contract to notorious tenderpreneur Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala. Corruption remains a debilitating cancer eroding the core of our nation.
When senior police officers, the very men and women sworn to fight crime, are accused of accepting bribes in the form of luxury vehicles, Ozempic, and even a butt lift from a figure linked to a series of corruption scandals that crippled Tembisa Hospital and cost whistleblower Babita Deokaran her life, it is nothing short of a national disgrace.
While the accused are entitled to their day in court, their alleged involvement with the criminal underworld is a complete utter betrayal of the blue uniform and everything the SAPS should stand for. They have become a disgraceful stain on an institution that South Africans desperately need to trust if we want to win the fight against crime and corruption. COPE urges the National Commissioner to immediately suspend every implicated officer without pay. No exceptions.
The public will no longer tolerate senior officers who allegedly protect criminals instead of citizens. We will continue to closely monitor this case and demand that every corrupt element still hiding within the SAPS is exposed and removed without fear or favor.

Today the First Deputy Secretary-General of the ANC, Cde Nomvula Mokonyane, joined comrades, friends and members of the community at the memorial service of Mosiuoa “Terror” Lekota, paying tribute to his lifelong contribution to the struggle for freedom and his dedication to serving the people of South Africa.
The long-anticipated move, criticised by the US and Israel, will see the three Commonwealth countries join France and several others in formally recognising a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly this week. https://t.co/LEu8oNnxRt
