In our post-election survey of more than 12,000 progressives — 76% said they believe the Democratic Party has lost its way, and 91% believe the Party has long neglected the multiracial working class.
85% told us they’re feeling Angry, Sad, and Depressed, and the rest said they're Shocked or Confused about Tuesday's election result.
While some ranked misogyny, racism, and xenophobia as factors in the election, many pointed to the neglect of working people, the failure of the Democratic Party, the late switch from Biden to Harris, and the campaign’s misguided focus on Cheney Republicans and celebrities.
Maine voters just passed a ballot initiative to cap contributions to super PACs at $5000. It was extremely popular — 74% voted in favor. The initiative fights back against #CitizensUnited and can set a nationwide precedent to get #DarkMoney out of politics.
It’s time for the Democratic Party to take stock and heed the warnings that progressives and working class Americans have been raising for years.
“It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them,” Sen. @BernieSanders said the morning after the election.
“First it was the white working class, and now it’s Latino and Black workers as well. While the Democratic Party leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they’re right.”
“In the coming months, those of us concerned with grassroots democracy and economic justice need to have some very serious discussions. Stay tuned,” Bernie said.
WATCH: @chrislhayes honors Shaban Al Dalu, a Palestinian teen who burned to death after an Israeli strike.
"That young man should have celebrated his 20th birthday today. Instead, the world became a witness to his violent death in a video depicting the endless horrors in Gaza—horrors that whether we like it or not, our government and our weapons are facilitating day after day until something changes."
Last year, I joined my colleagues to introduce the #CeasefireNOW Resolution.
One year later, our demands for peace remain stronger than ever.
@POTUS: we need an immediate ceasefire and an arms embargo NOW.
Really proud to have authored 3 zoning code changes to make it easier for developers to convert vacant office buildings into housing. This ordinance had unanimous support because it’s a win win: it will revitalize our property tax base and help create more housing in the (1/2)
The baseless claim that Haitian immigrants in Ohio are eating pets is not only a lie; it’s a racist lie designed to dehumanize Haitian immigrants as savages, which Trump does all the time including Obama’s a Kenyan, Mexicans are rapists, Venezuelans are taking over US towns.

4 more days until our primaries, Minnesota.
I voted for @IlhanMN because she's not just a great Representative, she's also a great campaigner.
And she doesn't just see campaigns as something to win, but as an opportunity to build relationships with her constituents. That's the kind of leadership we deserve.
Be sure to get out and vote on or before August 13.
Friends, we've only got 6 more days to vote in our primary elections, so be sure to make a plan to vote and remind your friends and family.
I'm voting for @IlhanMN because she's the champion for our environment that Minnesota needs right now. I hope you'll join me.
Only 7 days until our primaries, Minnesota, and only 90 until the general election.
I couldn't be happier that my good friend Tim Walz is on the ticket now. He'll do great things as Vice President, especially with allies in Congress like @IlhanMN.
So let's go volunteer, vote, and win this election together.
