I think this is just another reason we should not have any sort of rankings until the CFP releases theirs in week 8 or whatever. People (the media) put way to much weight on a teams ranking rather than whether they won or not. If this is the fallout for winning a competitive game, I’d rather Oregon play 3 FCS schools and win by 70 each week.

They do. A g6 team has not been competitive in either of their 2 playoff games. Boise state got man handled by Penn State in 24 and JMU was overmatched against Oregon last season.

I’m not saying they should be eliminated, I’m actively advocating for a 16 team playoff with SIX g6 teams. As it stands right now, the financial difference between the teams is substantial and this is shown through the depth of pure talent the p4 teams have.

So with one g6 team going up against 11 other p4 teams, their path to a championship is almost non-existent. There might be one overrated P4 team in, who they could beat. However, add a few more g6 teams, they can get a good draw, beat other g6 teams, maybe play and beat one of the overrated P4 teams (Tech), and then have an opportunity to pull off a BCS era type of upset in a national title game (Oklahoma/Boise State)

Absolutely. My genuine question though is this, how would the conference specific salary cap be determined? Would all conferences get the same exact amount? Or would the P4 still have a larger cap? Is it coming from the media rights deal? Cause unfortunately, I can’t see FOX/ESPN being willing to pay the same amount for Conference USA as they do for the B1G and SEC respectively.

I want good completive football, CFB Saturdays are my religion. Sadly I think we’re just going down a financial path that may not be recoverable. The rich will only continue to get richer.

I think a 16 team playoff with 6 G6 conference winners and 6 at large bids would be ideal. Theres a much better chance one of those six conference champs gets a nice draw and can actually stand a chance.

Everything is so up in the air now cause of the recent senate bill. From my understanding, schools are allowed to pay whatever they want and they don’t have to hide it in an NIL fund. I could be wrong but it’s all changing so fast, so who knows.

My fear with a fair pool of money is we would go back to a pre-nil world. Where money is “secretly” just funneled through the backdoor. I’m sure the SEC would be all for that, considering they haven’t been the same dominate conference since paying players became legal 😂

I’m all for that. Unfortunately, if the conferences approached it like the NFL, we would just go back to a pre-NIL world of backing the brinks truck up to the backdoor instead of the front.

I think we should expand to 16, get rid of all conference championship games, take the winner from each, P4 and G6, then 6 at large teams. Then start immediately after Army-Navy. None of this 35 days between games crap we have now.

You’re right, no matter what anyone thinks, the G6 will always have a seat at the table, cause if they don’t, they will sue. Which they win every single time.

No one saw Indiana winning a natty 365 days ago. Anything can happen. However, Indiana also has the yearly $75 million dollar media rights budget they get from being part of the B1G. That’s huge for facilities and more importantly, NIL. The Pac 12s media rights deal is expected to be somewhere in the $10 million range. There will always be 4-6 of the same elite teams at the top. Though a P4 school has a much better chance at winning 3-4 in a row overnight because of the financial backing they receive. Just ask Indiana. Boise State can’t say the same.

I think a relegation system would be the best thing to happen to CFB. Reward smaller schools for caring and competing, and punish the Rutgers of world for being ass. Unfortunately, money is far too powerful and media markets matter much more than competition level. Rutgers, even if they go 0-100 over the next 10 years, will always have a nicer seat at the table than Boise because they are 5 minutes from NYC.

@TheHerdBros As much as I like the Oregon Boise State style games, it offers NOTHING for the P4 other than the risk of losing. Soon enough, everyone will be taking the Indiana root cause come December, all anyone cares about is record.

I completely agree with you that P4 teams will only schedule “winnable” G6 teams in the future, unless you’re Rutgers, maybe they could handle an NAIA school.

While I think it’s sad that we could be shifting away from the Oregons and Boise States playing one another, I can also understand why. Blame the media. Oregon won this weekend. They out gained them in every capacity, just couldn’t finish. Yet, they still won and played a team with a pulse. However, they are getting dragged by the media and questioned on whether they are truly as good as we thought

Meanwhile, USC blows out San Jose State and Fresno State, two bottom feeders, and all the media talks about is how incredible they look.

So P4 teams are left with 2 options: win a competitive game against a team with a pulse, then get dropped in the polls and questioned all week.

Or blow out inferior competition and be told how awesome you are and crowned national champions in week 1.
