Today marks an important milestone in our journey at Sumic IT Solutions Ltd (@SumicUg)
In August 2025, our company was selected as one of the 10 ITES and BPO companies in Uganda to participate in the United Kingdom Trade Partnerships (UKTP) Programme, implemented by the International Trade Centre (@ITCnews) and funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.
Over the past months, we have gone through an intensive journey of learning, strategy development, and international market preparation. The programme brought together experts, mentors, and industry leaders who helped us refine how we position our services for the global market, particularly the United Kingdom.
This week we concluded the programme with the Final Export Marketing Plan (EMP) Validation & Certification Workshop.
This process pushed us to think deeper about:
✅ How Ugandan tech companies can compete globally
✅ How we structure our services for international clients
✅ How we build systems that meet global compliance standards
✅ And how we position Ugandan digital talent for global opportunities
For me personally, this experience reinforced something I strongly believe in: African technology companies have the capability to serve the world, we only need the right strategy, standards, and partnerships.
I am grateful to the International Trade Centre, the UK Government, the UKTP programme team, and all fellow cohort companies who shared this journey with us.
For Sumic IT Solutions, this is not the end of a programme, it is the beginning of our next chapter of global expansion.

Uganda has been ranked the 24th most competitive Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) destination globally out of 193 countries in the 2026 Global Outsourcing Talent Index.
This recognition validates Uganda's growing competitiveness, skilled workforce, strong English proficiency, and commitment to digital transformation.

Beyond Agriculture, The President's Strategic Message on ICT and BPO
One of the most significant, yet less discussed, messages from H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni's 2026 State of the Nation Address was the recognition of ICT and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) as strategic pillars of Uganda's economic transformation.
While much attention is often given to agriculture and manufacturing, the President explicitly identified ICT as one of the four sectors with the greatest potential to drive wealth creation, employment, and national competitiveness. More importantly, he highlighted BPO as a practical avenue for job creation, particularly for Uganda's growing youth population.
This signals a clear policy direction: Uganda's future economy will not only be built in farms and factories, but also in innovation hubs, software companies, digital service centers, call centers, data processing facilities, and technology-driven enterprises.
For investors, entrepreneurs, and technology companies, the message is clear:
⏺️ The digital economy is no longer a supporting sector, it is a national priority.
⏺️ BPO presents a major opportunity for youth employment and export of services.
⏺️ Uganda's transition into the knowledge economy will require stronger investments in digital skills, software development, AI, data services, cybersecurity, and digital infrastructure.
⏺️ ICT companies have an increasing role to play in positioning Uganda as a regional technology and outsourcing destination.
As we move towards a knowledge-based economy, the challenge now shifts from policy recognition to implementation, developing talent, attracting investment, strengthening digital infrastructure, and creating globally competitive ICT and BPO enterprises.
The future of Uganda's economy is increasingly digital. The time to build is now.

Uganda has been ranked the 24th most competitive outsourcing destination in the world, placing it in the global top 13% of all 193 UN-recognized countries, according to the 2026 Global Outsourcing Talent Index published by international staffing firm Ataraxis.
The Index is an independent, data-backed audit that scores every country across five weighted variables: labor cost, English proficiency, talent availability, digital infrastructure, and political stability. The Index draws on public datasets from sources including the World Bank, the International Labour Organization, the International Telecommunication Union, and the EF English Proficiency Index, rather than on country submissions.

Great 👍
We are moving forward.
Well done PS and the entire team.
This is the line for me on the Africa Outsourcing Statistics as of 2026
"Uganda is one of only two African countries with a labor cost score of 98 and an English proficiency score of 80 or higher, the other being Nigeria, which ranks #1 in Africa."
By 2030, we need to be in the Top 5.
Sumic IT Solutions Ltd @SumicUg has a contribution to these statistics and this Journey began with the UJ-CONNECT initiated by @MoICT_Ug and @jica_direct_en
Uganda’s placement in the global top 25 affirms the direction the Ministry has been pursuing under the National BPO Policy and the Digital Transformation Roadmap. We have consistently
framed our young workforce as a comparative advantage, and the data here supports that.
Our work to expand digital infrastructure, strengthen skilling, and create a competitive operating
environment for international enterprises is ongoing; independent rankings like this one help
validate the strategy.
