@Ms_H_English @FunkyPedagogy @Team_English1 I sent out a Google forms to every year group over lockdown asking what they are currently reading and for their favourite books. I was so surprised by the response and got hundreds of amazing recommendations I hadn't even heard of. Maybe ask the students in your school.
We’ve just sent out the results of our September 2020 Year 7 writing assessment to school. Key findings: Year 7s are 22 months behind where we’d expect them to be at this time in the year.
@KellyKi90462755 They stick the comprehension questions at the back of books so they have the whole plot to refer to at any time. They loved the comprehension on sheets because we made it like a competition and their analysis was so much better because they understood the plot really well.
@KellyKi90462755 I have always taught very low ability and tried cold reading for the first time with ACC last year. It's honestly the best decision I have made teaching it. A mixture between me reading and listening to the audio with lots of comprehension keeps them engaged and understanding.
@LRoss1810 E.A Mackintosh's poem 'Recruiting' criticises propaganda and recruitment but it is from WW1. It is an easy poem for year 8s to understand though.
@LRoss1810@Team_English1 The Manhunt by Simon Armitage is a great poem to pick apart and the speaker is the wife of a peacekeeper injured in Bosnia. You can also show students the channel 4 'Not Dead' documentary to go with it.
@MissUnsworth94 @FunkyPedagogy @Xris32 I do it over 8-10 lessons but have comprehension activities as well. The audible version is great also and students respond well to mixing between me reading and listening to the audiobook.
NEW POST: On Whole Class Feedback
My first (possibly last) attempt at a recorded CPD session. I talk about why we use WCF, how we use it and also share a few recent examples.

@SPryke2@SaysMiss@teachals@Team_English1@LitdriveUK We all have ambition to be or to do something with our lives. It's about having the strength to not be pressured into something that we know we don't want or know is a mistake. Macbeth's character reveals this weakness within us- the weakness to be influenced by those around us.
