Pratik Joshi had been living in London for six years. A software professional, he’d long dreamed of building a life abroad for his wife and three young children, who stayed back in India.
After years of waiting for due clearances the dream was finally coming true. Just two days ago, his wife, Dr. Komi Vyas, a renowned doctor in Udaipur, resigned from her job. The bags were packed, goodbyes said, the future within reach.
This morning, the family of five, filled with hope and excitement, boarded Air India flight 171 to London. They clicked a selfie. Sent it to relatives. A one-way journey to a new life. But they never made it. The plane crashed. No one survived.
In a matter of moments, a lifetime of dreams turned to ash. A brutal reminder, life is terrifyingly fragile. Everything you build, everything you hope for, everything you love, it all hangs by a thread. So while you can, live, love, and don’t wait for happiness to start tomorrow.
You know I’m honestly sick of people saying ‘well why should we pay for kids in poverty going hungry?’. Here’s an example for you and it’s actually not mine.
I had a woman once tell me about her and her husband. They both had high flying jobs in London. Both earning good money and they had a family. The husband ended up in a car accident and now needs 24hr care. She had young kids, needed to pay for carers and somehow manage her life. She had to leave her job, sell their home, pay for changes to accommodate her husband in their new home, and eventually ended up on benefits.
Moral of the story it only takes one accident, an illness, or even a death. If you have a great life, honestly good for you. Just remember we’re not all as lucky and life can change in an instant no matter who you are.
Take it in. The first female chancellor. The first housing secretary who's actually lived in social housing. The first education secretary who was on free school meals. An energy secretary who actually believes in aggressively fighting climate change. Not a bad afternoon.
Awesome school trip to Peterborough ERF today! Such an immersive experience into recycling, and transforming landfill into electricity for both students and staff! Thank you @ViridorUK@CeHeartwood
With the manifestos for the main parties announced I have shared a General Election summary with staff and students ahead of our mock election. Fully hyperlinked for anyone that wants to look up their constituency, candidates and compare their personal political philosophy.
Another awesome workshop at @SainsburyCentre. The children loved learning about the components of paint, painting techniques, making their own paint, and creating their own piece of abstract art! Thank you!
@lifeofkiran I trialled Huel for a while for breakfast (drank on the commute) and can’t fault it. You need to make it the night before and put in the fridge to get rid of the powdery texture. Adding ice in the morning also helps! Would avoid vanilla and chocolate 😀
Over the moon that today I was approved funding for the closed loop system otherwise known as an ‘artificial pancreas’. Here’s to living with diabetes, and teaching with diabetes, getting a whole lot easier! The technological advancement in diabetes medicine is just incredible 💙
Now everyone really does need to leave a mum of very young children who is battling cancer alone. Should have been left alone anyway, but now more than ever.
I had a thought today: there should be a national digital switch off between 6-7 every day. No mobile phones, no WiFi, no internet. I bet there would be an increase in children’s reading, social and vocabulary skills. Not just because they’d be off tech, the adults would be too.
So I created this in lockdown and wanted to share with the maths community! I wanted to show all the vocab we use in maths but also how everything links! Feel free to use or share, but please don't take credit for it as it took me about 2 weeks😀 #edutwitter#mathschat
