In August of last year, I heard @SecKennedy speak about Good Energy during a press conference. I ordered the book, dove in head first, and after 7 days, my daughter needed to come off her afternoon medication she was taking in attempt to manage bipolar disorder. This was the first improvement in 6 years!
Then, one year ago today, we were watching the Nutrition Roundtable to see what more we could learn from @CaseyMeansMD on our family’s metabolic health journey.
Little did we know, our lives were about to change forever. I think our whole world might have stopped for a minute when @ChrisPalmerMD spoke. We changed her diet to a ketogenic diet, and within days, she was an entirely new person in all of the best ways.
This has been the best year of her life, and it’s been the best year for our family, too. She thanks me almost every single day, but today - it’s Dr. Palmer day in our house and she wanted to thank all of you herself! ❤️
So - we all thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
Metabolic therapies control my schizophrenia.
I’m unrecognizable today.
I can function mentally and physically if I have enough ketones.

There is hope.
Our children deserve the absolute best. What if the most important thing we can do for their mental health starts at the dinner table?
As parents, we have one job: to give our children the strongest foundation possible for the life ahead of them.
We can’t control everything our kids will face, but we can change what we put on their plates. And this one thing can change everything.
Emerging research is changing the conversation around the powerful connection between metabolic health and mental health. This research changed my whole life.
That’s why I’m honored to be a featured speaker at the 2026 @QuitSugarSummit Metabolic Psychiatry Summit, happening October 21–25.
Over 5 days we will hear from 41 leading psychiatrists, researchers, and dietitians in the field and also from lived experiences who have found relief using metabolic therapies.
Real science. Real stories. Practical strategies.
And it’s FREE.
Because our children deserve more than simply waiting until something goes wrong.
Our job is to lay the foundation.
And that foundation starts with what we feed them.
If you’re a parent, caregiver, or simply someone who wants to understand the connection between nutrition, metabolism, and mental health, I hope you’ll join us.

Huge congratulations to our incredible Nutrition Network lecturers, members, and our acceditation partners at The Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners (SMHP) on the official publication of this landmark paper!
Proud to see so many familiar, trailblazing names, including Sarah Rice, Laura Buchanan, Mark Cucuzzella, @ObesityResolved Rob Cywes M.D. PhD, Miriam Kalamian, and Tro Kalayjian leading the charge in advancing clinical standards for metabolic health.
Titled "A Delphi consensus-based guideline for the implementation of therapeutic carbohydrate reduction in metabolic disorders" in the Journal of Metabolic Health, this rigorous work provides clinicians with the practical, evidence-informed roadmap needed to transform patient care globally.
Thank you for your tireless dedication to shifting the paradigm of metabolic medicine! Read the full open-access guideline here: https://t.co/lX0TzHcNaR

It’s a different journey and experience for each one us. We were one month of zero processed foods, eating only whole foods only straight from the farm before switching to the ketogenic diet. She had already been experiencing some symptom relief during this month and already needed to reduce her afternoon meds. After just 3 days of keto, she found sooooo much relief and quickly started recognizing that she would wake up feeling incredible, take her meds and then feel terrible. This is not true for everyone though. We listened to her body and how she was feeling. Working with your healthcare team to safely taper is so so so important. Our pharmacist helped me reduce her prescription, and in our case she was able to discontinue quickly.
The morning that my daughter came running into our room filled with excitement that all the noise inside her head that made her feel crazy was gone, and my own lifelong anxiety and weight of the world had lifted, I knew that speaking up was going to come at a cost. I understood exactly the forces we are up against to bring this to the world. The food and pharmaceutical industries are powerful. They influence policy and public health advice and determine what we know and think about food and health. But, I have never been one to sit down and shut up when there is a problem. And our health and mental health crisis are BIG PROBLEMS that we all deserve help, hope, and support to pull each other through. We all deserve much better outcomes and healthier, happier lives. Especially our children.
Every one of us is built from food and not enough of us stop to think about what that means. What we eat literally becomes us. A body and brain that is trying to run on foods that it was never designed to eat will always breakdown.
There's no one perfect diet, but we all designed from the foundation of real whole foods. We were never designed for this ultra-processed world we are living in and our health crisis reflects this. The brain is no different.
@SugarDetox and I discuss this and so much more during the @QuitSugarSummit Metabolic Psychiatry Summit. Catch this conversation and many more October 21-25! The science behind metabolic therapies for mental and metabolic health is incredible and the stories are powerful. This is a lineup you don't want to miss!

Since I’m re-reading Dr. Salisbury’s 1888 book “The Relation of Alimentation and Disease” I was inspired to come up with a Salisbury Steak Spaghetti Squash for dinner.
His original Salisbury steak was made with lean beef, minced, formed into a patty, fried and served with butter, salt, and pepper. This is how he approached every symptom, every ailment, and every disease all over and throughout the human body.
Our Standard Western Diet turned around and put a gravy with it, added mushrooms, onions, and thickened it with flour then served it up beside a mountain of potatoes and maybe some side vegetables. None of those things are foods that Salisbury included in his elimination protocol. In fact, once the symptoms on his all meat, broth/stock diet had alleviated, he would reintroduce carbohydrates one bite of bread at a time until the symptoms began to reoccur and then he’d have you go back to his original plan and start over. This is what we now call “finding your carbohydrate tolerance.”
This spaghetti squash dish took a little bit of both worlds and put them together. Ground beef, low carb squash, and a gravy made out of softened and caramelized onions cooked in butter, with garlic, beef stock, and goat cheese added at the end and puréed into a beautiful gravy.
Even my picky onion hater loved this! Apparently, the secret is puréeing all the things she doesn’t like into a creamy sauce. 😉
My husband and I had coffee and brunch together today, just the two of us. ❤️
We had butter coffee with an egg yolk, lots of butter, vanilla bean and salt. Ground beef, salmon, eggs, avocado, cultured butter, and sauerkraut.
Nourishment is about more than just food, it’s about surrounding yourself with the people and things you love. And I love sharing food with the people I love.
“The metabolic shift back to glucose is profound and devastating, as I imagine it could be if someone stopped potent medication abruptly.”
She didn't need medication.
She needed metabolic stability.

Morning sunlight is one of my favorite metabolic therapies.
That early morning light hitting the eyes signals our biology to activate and go. It reminds us that we are human, it helps set our natural rhythms, our energy, our focus, and our presence.
Before rushing into the day, I always take a minute to step outside, take a breath, feel the light, and let my body wake up with the sun.
Sometimes energy isn’t something we need to find. It’s something we need to activate.
The decaf butter coffee isn’t the thing that wakes me up. It’s the light.
"The intersection of metabolic psychiatry and addiction recovery is about the most exciting thing I've ever seen." — Mike Collins, aka the original Sugar-Free Man.

We roasted a chicken to share for dinner this evening. I made a warm salad to go alongside it with caramelized red onions, toasted pecans, roasted sweet potato, arugula, and goat cheese. Then I tossed it all together with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
I skipped the salad and had chicken, drippings, and sauerkraut. Genevieve went for chicken, butter, and a few bites of sweet potato. I’m a big fan of only making one meal work for the whole family because I’m not making 3 different meals for 3 different microbiomes, 3 different goals, or 3 different taste buds. I’m making one meal with multiple different ways of accommodating different nutritional strategies.
@sophs_maybe31 The meal is absolutely doing the work, but not all of it. When it’s the only meal you’re eating that day and you enjoy the company you’re keeping, it’s a little bit of both.
