My awesome @foleyhighschool Algebra 1 & 2 students designed rollercoasters and art (even animated!) on @Desmos to show their understanding of transformations. I can't attach them all, but I was beyond impressed!

Absenteeism is a major issue in schools, placing a heavy burden on students & parents to make up work.
The greater burden falls on teachers though, who must create a system to ensure students can stay caught up. With absences increasing, this adds even more tasks to already full teacher plates.
@ModestTeacher I think many students find the educational system irrelevant and obsolete. I can engage my students all day with relevant, authentic learning, and some still have no cares about passing the class or grades in general.
They desperately want us to believe that autism and ADHD are now being 'overdiagnosed'. The alternative is to admit that for generations, neurodivergent people have been systematically ignored and failed.
@MrZachG I can't see this being authentically successful in high school math classes. What about students who need extended processing time? Or the million interruptions we have daily? Most importantly, I care about students becoming critical thinkers, not speedy robots.
@WhiteMenCantFnk@DataJunkie@MrKWisconsin I've worked with plenty of older people who still couldn't run a register either. Math fluency is important, but automatically and speed and just not that important.
Schools are rapidly adopting behavior policies that fail immediately and dramatically, leading to further panicked lurching.
Why?
A lack of basic philosophy about how school and school discipline work.
