Carcassonne has stood for 1,700 years.
Centuries later, Edmund Burke gave words to the principle it represents.
Civilizations survive when one generation builds with reverence for those before it and responsibility toward those still to come.
We were all so naive thinking that the government PR machine was just incompetent.
Now the brutal truth is finally staring us in the face. Gwynoro Jones completely nails it here and it explains exactly what brilliant journalists like Fraser Nelson kept pointing out for months.
Fraser looked at the data and constantly asked why on earth the government was not publicising its massive achievements.
The government was on track to meet 70% of its manifesto commitments in just two years but the plotters in the party deliberately chose silence.
It was a calculated strategy to starve @Keir_Starmer of oxygen from the inside and prepare the ground for an undemocratic coup.
They hid the successes of their own government for over a year because they wanted the public to believe Starmer was failing so they could bring in Andy Burnham.
This was never a communications failure it was a cold and ruthless backroom betrayal.

“Keir was never any good at politics”. Forgive me but you don’t become leader, completely clean up a party ridden with problems and on its knees and win an election if you’re “not good at politics”. A perma-Tory car crash only goes so far. And he’s completely wrong-footed Burnham, speeded up the process to expose how unready he is - and Burnham’s had years to prepare, he should know exactly what he wants to do and have it laminated on his mirror but let’s face it he’s incapable of sticking to a position over minutes let alone years. Keir knows this. He knows a coronation is a mistake too. He’s very good at politics. And hats off.
Usually not a fan of MPs being barracked on here. But all the Burnham supporting MPs putting out their little “I love Andy” statements and getting a shellacking from furious Labour members is superb. All the Johnsonites who went ballistic when he was dragged out - and they’ve all gone to Reform obv - were wankers. He shouldn’t have been allowed to get to 3 years. But Keir supporters - keep going, you’re so right. What happened yesterday has deeply affected me too. Horrific.
The International Leaders have been unanimous in their praise and support for Keir Starmer. They could see clearly what he was achieving. Whilst Brits could see only the media’s distortion. We are corrupted by billionaires who don’t live here but earn their money here.
You have betrayed all those who were daring to believe that we had a prime minister who was worthy trust.
In a few short weeks you have destroyed that trust.
Your years of treacherous plotting have been uncovered.
You have condemned the country to yet more cost & instability.
Funny how @PippaCrerar@Peston@SamCoatesSky@ChrisMasonBBC@bbclaurak
have gone quiet. They're all wetting themselves with excitement over Starmer going. They should be utterly ashamed of their major role in this. If only they cared for our country as much as for their egos
Dear @UKLabour
I think you have just made a truly disastrous decision.
Starmer was PRECISELY what the uk needed for this moment in time, rebuilding from 14 years of catastrophic tory fuckwittery.
Foolish, deluded, and gutless.
You're welcome.
TV news, in trying to find a reason for the apparently baffling fact that we’ve had so many PMs in such a short time - why, that is, we have only one type of politics now - that of outrage, leading inexorably to endless and repetitive political cancellation - can’t bring itself, I note, to even mention the words: social media.
Starmer is leaving because he lost a battle with The Daily Mail, The Sun, GB-News, Russian Propaganda, Musk, MAGA and Twitter.
The next PM will have the same forces undermining him from Day 1.
Who and how can we win this war? The answer isn’t Andy Burnham…
