@vanderwalc and I were on the road, visiting @EMacGillHDSB with the GIANT Indigenous Peoples Atlas floor map. Ss are considering the Truths that are told through the map regarding Article 26 of #UNDRIP Thank you @SaharMonzavi for lending a hand.
.@MrsTPhil & I were fortunate to explore the Indigenous Peoples Atlas floor map w/ Ss @DesmondHDSB - we began w/ @RStaceyLaforme ‘s “Sacred Trust” - learning rooted in Article 26 of #UNDRIP
What a day! It was amazing to see Gr. 7s connect our learning this year w/a visit from @vanderwalc & @MrsTPhil where Ss developed a deeper understanding of land rights, colonization, and self-determination. Thankful for the continued opportunity to learn & reflect @DesmondHDSB
Thx to @vanderwalc & @MrsTPhil for another great visit today working w/gr7s to help consolidate some of our thinking from this year so far & make connections to #UNDRIP. This will continue to guide our thinking through our inquiry this spring. @HDSBIndigenous@DesmondHDSB
Thinking about Spring, relationships, and renewal this long weekend. Excited to be outdoors with Ss as we approach June @HDSBIndigenous#Treaties#UNDRIP at the heart of science and geography education with @vanderwalc ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Did you know? Canada’s Boreal Forest stores huge amounts of #carbon, about 12% of the world’s land-based carbon reserves. That's equivalent of up to 36 years of global carbon emissions from burning fossil fuels. https://t.co/4z5GIelZHG
I’m stunned by @Pontifex apology. I know many delegates who came here and other survivors who long prayed for an apology are feeling a sense of Justice from this action.
“The only words he spoke back to us in English, he repeated truth, justice and healing,” Ms. Caron said. “And I take that as a personal commitment. So he has personally committed to those actions.” @EricReguly @TaviaGrant and me https://t.co/jj37eXcezj
We had a moment today, before the Vatican. Fred Kelly, spiritual advisor with @AFN_Updates delegation, asked us to remember all the residential school students, those who died at school, MMIWG, 60s Scoop survivors. He asked us to keep them in our minds. This is why we are here.
Today, I visited Anima Mundi, part of the Vatican Museum with Indigenous “artifacts” kept in the Church’s private collection. There is an “Ontario”pipe stove from the 18th century, Haida Gwaii masks from the 18th Century, much more. I photographed them and was asked to leave.
