A7: I don't currently have any science fiction in my classroom. I'm trying to think if I have any Magical School Bus books, but I'm not certain. If I don't end up being able to purchase any this summer I will be looking to rent some from the library. #undtl528
@anne94jensen Nothing wrong with that! There is so much reading for school. I wouldn't be doing any pleasure reading with my hectic classes but I'm required to for a group I'm in. I'm glad you'll have time in a few weeks :) #undtl528
@brhenderson18 I think the library would be a great resource in being able to introduce graphic novels in the classroom. It's a more financial way to start seeing how you could use them in the classroom and what titles are appropriate for you grade level #undtl528
@abata228 AH!! We have the same favorites!!! These were the first to come to mind and I have so many of the books. It has been awhile since I've read them, but I'm drawn to them when I see them at garage sales. I also love how they address so many different issues. #undtl528
@abata228 I love the idea of expanding students' minds with what the future could be like. So many people connect with Star Wars (not my thing) so I could see students really loving what Sci-Fi books offer for their imagination. #undtl528
@abata228 I'm in the same boat! I don't have much experience so science fiction isn't something I gravitate towards and haven't put a lot of thought into. I could see some of my firsties loving science fiction though! #undtl528
A5: I loved the Little Critter books by Mercer Meyer and I remember reading them to my niece when I was 10. I loved finding the mouse on each page and how I could connect with the same character through multiple stories. #undtl528
A3: I have not taught them in my classroom. My problem is that I don't have any and have been on a tight budget. I'm hoping to find some that are age appropriate and at least purchase a couple for the upcoming year. #undtl528
A2: One of the benefits for graphic novels/comics is to reach reluctant readers. Often they are more motivated by these types of books and benefit from the strong visuals. Inferring could be easily taught with graphic novels/comics. #undtl528
@JenniferFugles1 I will have to get that book! I had a student last year whose dad was from Pakistan (the boy was born in Australia). That would be a perfect addition to the classroom literature. Thanks for sharing! #UNDTL528
Q5: "The Water Princess" by Susan Verde is a beautifully written book about a girl that dreams about a day her village will have water and won't have to walk everyday to retrieve (dirty) water in the hot sun. It's based off a true story. #UNDTL528
@abata228 I was thinking about using my points on Scholastic as well! It will be interesting to be looking at it through the lens of finding good diverse literature - I can't recall how good of a collection they have #UNDTL528
@abata228 My students also enjoy learning about Martin Luther King Jr. ALL students can appreciate how he dreamed for "better days and for everyone to get along" #UNDTL528
