Tens of thousands of GCSE students doing their English Literature exam tomorrow with Macbeth will wonder at the portents of the thunder this evening (will supernatural be in the paper?)
Unpaid overtime is harming teachers' wellbeing and is ‘a key factor in fuelling the severe recruitment and retention crisis’, says @PaulWhiteman6 commenting on a new report

BBC reporting teachers in Aberdeen are 'traumatised, fear for their safety and are scared to go to to work' because of escalating pupil violence. This correlates with the trend towards restorative prac, zero exclusions, fewer sanctions and more excuses. It's a complete scandal.
If I was going to make one small change to classrooms, I'd install blinds that close upwards. That way, I can block the bit of the light that gets in the kid's eyes, but still have the glorious sunshine streaming into the room, rather than sitting in the dark with the lights on.
I've gone from a school that allows phones at social times to one where you do not see phones. And I can tell you that children become children again - playing games, talking, laughing, socialising at break and lunch. They don't stand in groups with their eyes on a screen.
‘Write less; Read More’
“What if pupils had more time reading, and talking about what they read, then write brilliant, polished diamonds of sentences. Not paragraphs, or pages filled with aimless efforts.”

The anti any sanctions movement confuses me. In life, actions have consequences. If we want our young ppl to have a sense of responsibility, then accountability has to start earlier than 18 years old, or surely we are training young ppl into thinking anything goes.
'The struggle with 'writing stamina''
"For many teachers, a lack of writing stamina characterises an inability to write independently for a sustained period. And yet, it probably characterises a broader range of behaviours that attend writing..."

@lcgeography @PaulCline_psy Totally this. I will often say ‘hands down - I want to see what different people are thinking’.
I also say that ‘you all need to be prepared to answer as I’m going to ask some of you’.
Ministers have published an updated reading framework for pupils up to the age of 14 and announced a review of how writing is being taught in schools, following this year’s Sats results
