Gem of the week:
While discussing the differences between parallel and series circuits:
Student: When you were little, did you have to use candles to see when it got dark?
Me: How old do you think I am???
Discussion of the Boston Tea Party:
Me: For what reason do you think the Patriots marked up their faces before boarding the ships?
Student: To look cool and impress the ladies
Well, that's the most 4th grade boy answer to that question ever. π€·ββοΈ

A sub walks in today:
Student: Are you the music teacher?
Sub: Today I am.
Student: But you taught gym the other day.
Sub: I'm a woman of many hats.
Me: They are very literal. Someone is going to ask you how many hats you own.
10 seconds later - Student: You aren't wearing a hat.
Although not in the scoring guide, I would definitely award this answer the point because it is certainly a way to keep students healthy in a social-emotional-self care kind of way.

10 word spelling test with a group of virtual students
Me:Ready for #6?
Student:I'm done.
Me:With #5?
Student:With the whole test.
Me:How's that possible?
Student:no response
When I saw his test on #Seesaw I realized why, he copied his 2x each homework from Monday and posted it
Listening to a @Screencastify of a story I read today:
Student:"The words are blurry."
Me:"That's alright, you just need to listen. Or you could put your glasses on."
Student (after he puts glasses on): "OH! I can see better!"
I've only been telling him all year to wear them. π€¦ββοΈ
What a week....
Let's start with an intro to animal adaptations.
Me: Humans are animals.
Student: (look of shock) REALLY!!!!!?????? I want to be a turtle!
Me: You're a human.
Student: stares
Me: You don't get to pick what kind of animal.

@Seesaw I am loving the new additions to Seesaw. My one desire for your next update would be some sort of drag and select feature that would let you lock multiple items at once.
@Bored_Teachers Folding laundry on the bed but being too tired to put it away, but there's too much of it taking up space, so you can't go to sleep. That's my current conundrum.
Zooming with friends from grad school. One works in NY. They had a #RedForEd day to remind the teachers that they are in this together 1 year after they shut down for the pandemic. I asked who Ed was. It's been that kind of week. π€·ββοΈ#teachinginapandemic#WeAreInThisTogether
Exactly. Because the students and teachers need more things to stress over right now? Why is there such a push towards student mental health concerns yet those in power seem to think we need to undermine that important work with standardized testing?

Me: Use the highlighted words in the book to complete the top of your review sheet.
Student: There aren't any highlighted words in my book.
Me: Do you see the words in yellow in your book?
Student: Yes
Me: Those are the highlighted words.
Student: Really?
