This is a genuine question. Not meant to be rhetoric or contradictory to modern pedagogical techniques. Just a pre-service teacher looking for advice from the pros #teachersoftwitter
Question for #teachertwitter We know equality ≠ equity so we encourage differentiation and modification for students who need it. However, we are also encouraged to avoid bias by doing things like covering student names when grading. How do we find balance with these practices?
For example, rubrics theoretically allow any person to grade students’ work because expectations are clear. But if we modify expectations for students based on learning needs to create equity, how do we establish a new evaluation tool for what is “fair”?
Off in another world! This week we learned about using Virtual Reality in the science classroom in #EMS373 Never tried VR? Head to @NCStateCEDMETRC to check it out. My favorite simulation shrunk me down so I could explore inside a cell! @Reynolds_NCSU
What a fun day of learning about nuclear chemistry! After my microteaching lesson in #EMS373, @Reynolds_NCSU surprised the class with a field trip to the nuclear reactor on campus. You might even say it was… isodope @NCState@NCStateCED
@angelbr_ncsu@CCMMSRedwolves I loved it Angel! They threw some curveballs at me but overall the kids were great and fun to chat with about their resources.
What a great day! This morning I taught 8th grade science at @CCMMSRedwolves and it was a blast! My PLT taught the class about where energy comes from. We explored renewable and non-renewable resources & read graphics that showed the carbon dioxide emissions of fossil fuels.
@ClassLaws I could be moved to tears by that video I love it so much! I especially love that they can keep the board game for the future. May I ask what grade level/subject you were teaching specifically? I wish I could have been a fly on the wall for this lesson!
@MsLeeintheLab @NCStateCED@MrJones_Teaches@MariaMReyes0513@CCMMSRedwolves WE LOVE SCIENCE!! This is so fun and hands on. With COVID safety, how did you blow up the balloons? Did you use a balloon pump? Also, did you find that a high energy (hehe) activity like this led to more classroom distraction? If so, how did you handle that?
@msemersongrace@CCMMSRedwolves@NCStateCED I'm so excited for you to model stepping out of your comfort zone by teaching, and it clearly helped the students feel safe to step out of theirs by sharing their poems. Were your students free to write a poem on any topic or was a prompt provided for them?
@MsScienceman@NCStateCED@CCMMSRedwolves This is amazing! It's a great idea to introduce middle school students to learning their emotions. Were you working with students from each grade level, or focused on just one grade?
@miss_morgan_nc@NCStateCED@CCMMSRedwolves This looks like such a fun way to review! Since your lesson plan was mainly review, did you go over any instructional material first, or were the students ready to engage in review for the entire duration of the 50 minutes? Did you have to pause the game to review further?
Through this experience I learned how much I enjoy being in a supportive PLT. I loved sharing work and ideas with my team @mswilliamsteac1 @MsMajor_Bio. In creating a safe environment with each other, we model how to be good friends and teammates for our students. #ED204SLP
To share what they learned, each student created an advertisement to describe one renewable or non-renewable resource. They had so much fun drawing pictures and describing pros and cons of different sources. They were free to use reliable resources for research.
This girl is on FIYA!! Thanks @NcsuNsta for hosting a fire safety training PGU where I got to put out a real fire! May come in handy one day in Ms. Crist’s Chem Lab.
