A few things I’ve learned this last year founding @magicschoolai :

You will have doors shut on you, doors slammed shut even. Think of these as a “not right now” and keep going.

The more eyes, the more critics. Learn from them. Don’t let them shake your conviction.

Celebrate the wins, even the small ones. They can add up to something much bigger.

High standards beget high standards. Know when to take the gas off the brakes (for sanity), but never lower the bar.

People are everything. Hire exceptionally, treat people exceptionally, and they will deliver exceptionally.

Find at least one (or a few) people who believe in you more than you believe in yourself. Talk to them often. I had friends and mentors who told me I “was building the most important education company of this generation” before we’d had any meaningful impact. Those are words I still couldn’t say myself.

Stay scrappy. Breathe, celebrate, and recharge at the milestones but don’t slip into complacency.

And most of all:
